I happen to absolutely LOVE Wes Craven's work. You may recognize the heroine (Rachael McAdams) from The Family Stone, Mean Girls, and The Notebook. This movie can get pretty intense, but for those who saw the remake of When a Stranger Calls, its nothing big. Parents may cringe at the sexual refrences (rape) and the use of a certain four letter word, but, the violence is what would get most. For those familar with Craven's work, this movie is very laid back. The most violent moment is when the "bad guy" is stabbed in the adam's apple with a pen, resulting one of those "ewww" kinda moments. Kids will enjoy being able to be scared without scaring(at least not too badly) their parents. I think this one depends on your kids, and for younger ones (11-) should be viewed in broad daylight, with parents close at hand. For the older ones (13+) depending on how you handle horror, you may want to invite a friend over...
