What parents need to know

Parents need to know that young environmentalists will love the anti-poaching message and the animated rainforest, and the brilliant scenery and a funny albatross will interest most youngsters, but there are still some scary moments that parents should be aware of: Cody is threatened with death-by-crocodile twice, McLeach is swept over a falls (to his death). McLeach fakes the boy's death and imprisons him in an abandoned mine. Cody, his eagle friend, and her eggs spend most of the film in jeopardy.

What's the story?

What's the story?
This sequel reprises the dynamic duo of Eva Gabor and Bob Newhart as intrepid mice Miss Bianca and Bernard and places them in the terrific natural landscape of the Australian Outback. When young Cody is kidnapped by a poacher, Bianca and Bernard hop aboard Wilbur the Albatross (voiced by John Candy) and fly off to rescue the boy. In Australia, they team up with an Aussie mouse named Jake to save Cody and stop evil poacher McLeach from selling endangered animals.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

It is a rare sequel that improves on the original, but THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER does exactly that, this time without any of those lame songs. Disney makes the brave choice of using a decidedly un-cute bird of prey as the focus of its wildlife preservation story--Marahute is a majestic and wonderfully realistic character.

While Cody is impossibly cute and brave, it is really the animals' stories that will interest most youngsters, from the budding romance between Miss Bianca and Bernard to Wilbur's silly antics in a hospital run by mice. And not only are these stories entertaining, they also convey a strong environmental message. The only questionable aspect of this film is its failure to give anyone but Jake an Australian accent--what was Disney thinking? That only Americans live down under? Nonetheless, this is a wonderful looking cartoon that is bound to please.

Killer movie
Yeah they released it at a wrong time but it's a great movie.

No more than a Disney sequel...
Bland, boring, violent and stupid. Margery Sharp, author of the charming books in which the worthy The Rescuers (1977) and this pathetic sequel are based on, would have died seeing what Disney has turned her works into. The film features a boring story, with bland characters and worst of all, no bit of charm anywhere. The story is surprisingly a rip off of the original's, but pathetically enough, this one didn't manage to capture half of its value. I'd skip this one unless you're into Disney's cheap-sequel-fest fare.

great movie, may be too intense for very young children
I really love this movie I would have rated the Rescuers Down Under: (PG) - for intense moments

Loser of the 11/16/1990 movie fight
It's true. Only got $27 Million. The movie was not that bad. It was okay... This should not be considered a sequel because it didn't start where The Rescuers (1977) left off. Mainly, Cody accepts to rescue Marahute, a golden eagle, but kidnapped by poacher named McLeach. Bernard and Bianca of R.A.S set to rescue him - but not quite. The duo were the most boring charectors of the film. Bianca does almost nothing and Bernard doesn't want to rescue Cody and only wants to propose marriage to Bianca. Jake was the ONLY one who did effort to save Cody and the film leaves Cody rescued - but questions unanswered. Go buy the first film is all I can say but buy this to help you sleep.

Such a great movie - but the poacher character can be frightening, as well as Joanna (his salamander). I think that the mice and the funny albatross temper the scary parts.
