The Ring Two (PG-13, 2005)

common sense media says

Scarier than the first, but not as interesting.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this movie is extremely scary, and there's near-constant peril for all the major characters. Younger and horror-adverse audiences will be frightened by many scenes and images, including the attempted murder of young children and the suicides of parents. There are deer attacks, attempted drownings, chase scenes, a spooky basement, and the non-explicit but horrific off-screen deaths of characters. There is a very graphic "suicide" and references to madness. A character swears in a very memorable and scary scene.

Positive role models: Strong female lead character.
Violence: Very spooky, constant peril, several characters die, child's behavior changes dramatically, attempted infanticide, images of suicide.
Sex: A couple kisses on the couch.
Language: Some profanity, including one use of the F word.
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Use of sedatives.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about the consequences of our actions. At the end of The Ring, Rachel made a choice, and this sequel represents the outcome of her choice. What else could she have done? What are the teenagers in the beginning of the movie choosing to do in a similar situation? What would you do differently?

What's the story?

What's the story?
In THE RING TWO, single-mom and journalist Rachel (Naomi Watts) has packed up son, Aidan (David Dorfman), and the city apartment in favor of a new start away from the killer-video-tapes of Seattle. No sooner can Rachel say "we are safe now," then she hears about a local teen who has died from terror in front of his television. Rachel destroys the new tape only to find that deadly little tape-ghost, Samara, has designs on taking over Aidan. The chase is on: Rachel must find out how to get Samara out of their lives for good, seeking help from the young ghost's biological mother (Sissy Spacek). Realizing she will have to take care of business herself, Rachel dives into a series of watery endings that come together in a muddy puddle, ultimately demonstrating that maternal love wins over evil. Or something to that effect.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

First off, this is the kind of sequel where you really should see The Ring before seeing this sequel. In addition to the many visual and character references, you also will understand that the second in the series, while scarier, lacks the first's novelty and many of its strengths. Here, Samara is free from the rules of the first movie. She pops out of the video and into their lives without the requisite seven-day waiting period and shows no intention of leaving.

Director Hideo Nakata, who was the mastermind behind the Ring's inspiration (Japanese blockbuster Ringu and its sequel), excels at atmospherics but is lazy with plot. While spookier than the first, the bare bones of the movie read like a rehashed Lifetime channel drama. If you're willing to jump over the plot's many weak bits, then this psychological thriller is a good-looking spook-fest and a should-see for fans of the original. For those looking for a tight, tense stand-alone horror movie, they might want to peek into another dark corner.

The Ring Two
Not nearly as scary as the first one, but scary none the less. A well crafted sequel.

Pretty good movie
i thought this movie was pretty good. I think honestly people shouldn't be rating this movie for 15+ i was 10 when I saw this and didn't jump once! Overall this movie is pretty good and if you want some not bloody but intense and anticipation you should see this movie.

A little better than critics say; not as good as the first, but somewhat scarier.
My rating: PG-13 for disturbing content including some scenes of violence and one use of language.

Scares are scarce
in this mediocre sequel to a pretty interesting film I saw a good 3/4 of. The acting by the young child matches that of Channing Tatum in "G.I. Joe:" Awful. Special effects are large, and there is one hilarious scene with strong profanity, but that's the only case that I caught of harsh language. Mostly talk, "The Ring Two" is only for die-hard horror fanatics, something that I am not.

I really liked this movie. It does lack storyline like the grudge 2 but I still enjoyed it. It can be jumpy in parts. 9+ can handle it

Sadly, it's not as good as the first, but as far as horror movies go, not bad.

Better, scarier, and more intense than the first!!!!!
Thuis is much better than the first movie, because unlike the first one, it is more of a horror, and it dose have issues, 1. Many jump scenes, smara is very creepy, many images will downright freak you out (i will not share said imiages because of spoilers), two wemon try to drown their children, images of suicide. 2. language is mild, mostly a-s or d--n, but this is because twoards the end, there is one F word. overall, if you liked the first one you will love this one!

at first i thought this movie was just to follow up the ring and that now it wouldnt make sense and sence its 2005 the age were the blood and gore began becomeing popular in movies i thought is was just going to be like that but its not i thought i was great not scary my friend got scard of this one not the ring1 so i would have rated this on for 9+ butsense they thought it was scaryer i rated it on for 10+ the thing i didn't like was that they did a whole new plot for it after the middle part there is no concerns but highlights it has good role models because of the main charecter facing her fears and positve messegaes because of her faceing her fears and yes there are some mild word like crap but not bad words

One of the Scariest Movies of the year
The ring 2 is not as much gore but suspence. This movie is for more mature teens and adults. People with strong stomachs

Okay
This movie got a little bnoring and stupid. But all together I thought it was fine. The part in the bathroom was really cool when all the water was going to the ceiling. It was scarier than the first but that's not saying much. If you enjoyed the first Ring than you should watch this.

this movie is not for PG13 maybe 15+

After the first movie, i found the Ring 2 a bit of a let down. There are still many questions left unanswered, and the scene where the deer attack the car seem quite pathetic. Although, other scenes are the complete opposite and can bee quite disturbing. Still a good movie, just not as good as the first.

Not as good as the first!
This movie is not as good as the first. While there are some scary scenes, the part where the deer attack the car is quite funny, the deer are very badly computer-generated. The best part is where Aiden is in the bathtub with the water swirling around him...that part is, to me at least, the most memorable of the whole movie. If you don't see the first movie before watching this one, you will be very confused. Overall, it is enjoyable enough to watch, but not something you will feel the need to keep in your movie collection.
