great

Great for 6+ but younger kids won't get it
I watched this with my 3 year old. Whilst there was nothing in it that I didn't want him to see, much of the humour went way over his head. Also he spent most of the film asking me why Shrek and Fiona were being nasty to everyone
Lives in Ohio- I rate this title iffy for age 10 and give itMy concerns are:
- Inappropriate sexual content
Filled with sexual references, not really a film for young kids
This film is perfectly fine for 11 year olds and over. 10 year olds need parental guidance. The content is too iffy for young kids.

LOVED it
What can I say? Shrek's a lovable fellow. I didnt know what a "parfait" was at the time i saw it, though

Goodman is great
John Goodman is great as Shrek! Who else could've done it! almost as good as Goodman's Monsters inc

Funny, but not really appropriate for young kids.
I have younger children and found that this movie was very funny, but way to full of unnuendo's for my children. Everyone always says they won't get it, but I feel that if you continue to shove it in their faces over and over--they will. I would not allow my oldest child (11) to even see this movie. I would have to say it would be okay for 13 and up.

good fairytale mix.
i like how the director mixed the fairy tales in one movie.

Spectacular
Though the language is a bit strong for a PG, this movie is amazing. I do not typically like comedies, but I laughed at this movie, and it was one of the few comedies that I really enjoyed. I own this movie and watch it all the time, kids love it as well. Shrek is probably Dreamwork's best work.

Shrek
Sexual Content (Not an Issue): Some kissing and innuendo. Violence (Pause): A character is threatened with pitchforks and torches, a bird explodes, a character is eaten by a dragon, and characters are constantly in peril. Some slapstick. Language (Pause): Ass, damn, and crap. Social Behavior (On): A strong theme of the movie is accepting others for what's on the inside. Commercialism (Not an Issue): No product placement in the movie, but Shrek is a huge marketing empire. Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Not an Issue): None.

Loved it!
We first watched Shrek on broadcast tv. We being me and my soon to be three year old. He loved it! It is the first movie he's ever watched all the way through. Later we saw the dvd version and figured out why the pg 13 was in place, but honestly? The kids hear worse walking through WalMart. We purchased the dvd and will continue to watch it.

Well done - but too much emphasis on appearance
Not until the end of the movie is the intended message clear. It's difficult for younger ones to get the complete message. For them, there is too much emphasis on the "ugly" features, ostracism, and the differences which set them apart. To child younger than grade two, the reward is beauty, the princess is sad and alone while ugly, turns pretty and lives happiy ever after. We will keep this for the older children - what a shame.

Not right...
This was not a good movie at all. I watched it with my 14 year old daughter tonight and it was awful! And she agreed!!! We could not believe all the swearing in it! Here we thought it would be cute and funny, and it turned out to be stupid and boring. My daughter and I just looked at each other wondering how people with little kids were watching this! I DO NOT recommend this movie to anyone under the age of 13.

Great movie but not for little kids
The movie is a hoot. The sarcasm and grown up humor are too much for small children. Older kids and adults will enjoy this movie. I laughed. It is quite clever.

Great !
Like the other reviewers, most of the offensive stuff goes right over the head - my 5 year old was a little scared of the dragon at first, but we talked about it, and she wasn't scared at all.

Crude laughs, but a great storyline
Sexual Content (Pause): Sexual humor and innuendo, but most of it will go over kids' heads. Violence (Pause): Characters are constantly in peril, a character is eaten alive. Language (Pause): A few uses each of "ass", "damn", and "crap". Social Behavior (On): Princess Fiona is a strong female character. Tolerance is a major theme of the movie. Some crude humor. Commercialism (Not an Issue): None in the movie, but Shrek stuff is everywhere - cups, toys, video games, you name it. Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Pause): A bear is seen with a pipe, reference to pina coladas.

a GREAT FAMILY COMEDY FOR KIDS EVERYWHERE

REALLY funny!
I think that it's great that there is something for both little kids and adults in this movie. Why bore the tears out of parents just so that there is nothing potentially "bad" about the movie? This is the best of the three movies and is really funny the whole way through.

Shrek is a hilarious fairy tale with a great sense of humor and action. Very fun for kids, teens, and adults alike. Good for kids 6+

The best animated movie ever! Period!

Great Message
I think this is a good movie because it has a postive message. In the end people figure out that its not physical beauty thats vital, its how beautiful you are as an individual. This is a rare thing in hollywood because you always see magazines and movies with people that have perfect bodies and its not realistic. So I think this is a excellent movie for kids and adults.

Shrek is a classic comedy I really enjoyed myself.
