we love this film, it is very stylized so the violence is very graphic and gory, there are a few boobs and a girl dancing, but this film is great if you are a comic book fan!

Extremely Violent, Extremely Dark, Extremely Excellent
This is a fantastic, visually-stunning masterpiece. I highly reccommend it. Parents: Although a lot of the violence is obviously fake, a lot of it isn't: heads are cut off, bodies are chewed upon, the main villains are cannibals and child molestors. More dismemberments than Saving Private Ryan. A man's genitals are blown off and at tyhe end of the film, after they've grown back, they're hideouslty ripped off. Beatings (to death), shootings, stabbings, drowings, and dumping in tar pits. but despite all of the gratuituous, over-the-top graphic and pitch-black dark tone and scenes, this is a beautiful film. It is a masterpiece, simply and mildly put. The acting is brilliant, the dialogue is stylish and entertaining, the background is indescribable, and the action is just pure awesome. I give the highest reccommendation that I can.

e.g. You should think twice before going with a tween!
It's beautifully shot and very stylish but its also incredibly violent and over the top. Violence: Extreme raw brutal over the top Sexual Content: Very mild Language: A few s-words. Overall its an excellent film and should be ok for 15+.

OMG! THIS WAS PERFECT!
Sin City ends the search for a perfect movie at last. It was entertaining in all the ways. The acting was perfect, especially Mikey Rourke as Marv, he didn't just play and became the character, he was the character. The violence was there, but probably just as bad as the violence in the 007s. Sex was somewhat bad because all the female characters were hookers with the exception of one. PERFECT! ABSOLUTLEY PERFECT!

Dark movie but contains extensive sex and violence.
Many violent prostitutes, nudity, gruesome images, and frequent, animated violence.

hmmmm...
Okay, so the cinematography was great and extremely creative. I liked that part of the movie. I'm not sure why Hollywood has to make things in this movie so violent and crazy though. To me, it seems like when one character rips another character's genitals off, that's a bit too much. I don't think I'd recommend it.

Most teenagers, 13 and up should be able to handle this film...
I have three children, one 7, one 14, and one 17, and I watch ed this film with all three at my house. It is true, the violence is intense, but it is not horrifying. Most of the really violent parts are in black and white, thus losing the effect of gore. This is nothing a 13 to 18 year old child can not handle. It is very good film and unique. I had to be reasonable, the violence is graphic, but still, a thirteen year old should know what being shot looks like. Plus most of it is unrealistic like a comic book. The sexual innuendo strikes as iffy. There are mostly themes, nothing graphic, and references to prostitution, other than that, there is really nothing to be worried about. There is virtually no profanity, and the alcohol is at a minumum, to social drinking. Think about this deeply, children go through hormonal phases, thus they know about sex, I guarentee kids talk about prostitutes in school, there are no graphic references here. The violence, though strong, most kids and teens will find it cool at most. Before you say no to your child, think about all the aspects, violence, graphic but kids love to see someone get blown up these days. Sex, nothing graphic, nothing kids havent heard of before. And alcohol and profanity, really none to be honest. Give your child some sympathy here, if they truly want to see it, let them. I have let my children see it and they are all fine, no nightmares, they are still doing wonderful in school, two of my kids are straighjt A-students. At the end its your judgment, but I put in my opinion, 13 and up should be aloud to see it.

Great movie... for adults
Incredible images and great movie. Excellent movie to educate older teens about stylized movie making. Way too harsh for young teens.

Interesting...
This movie is obviously NOT for kids and I'm sure the sexual aspect of it can offend people. I thought it was entertaining and original. I've never seen anything like it.It was very weird and creepy though, and overly gruesome(kinda like Kill Bill). It will please people and disappoint others.

Gritty but good
This is mature stuff -- but the comic book look (and hard-boiled dialogue) make the violence easier to handle.

Fantastic! Most entertaining movie I've seen in a while!
This movie is NOT for kids by any means. If you are thinking about taking your children to see this, you may as well take them to see "Amittyville Horror" as that graphic film is probably less violent than "Sin City." This is the latest film from Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, From Dusk 'Til Dawn) and this is definitly a crowning achievement for him. All the parts are played well, and the action is carried out perfectly. This has to be at least as violent, and much more disturbing than the "Kill Bill" series. Adults (especially males ages 17-35) will appreciate this action packed movie most. *****/5

Should really be rated "off"
I think that CSM is becoming numb to the violence in today's media. I cannot imagine any recommendation other than "off" for _Sin City_. Is there anything of value (morally, ethically, spiritually, educationally) in this movie? Can anyone think of anything vile, debasing, or inhuman that is missing from _Sin City_? I couldn't.

Great for the fans of the comic. Obviosly overated but done well. Black and white suited the stories, and the narration was entertaining.

sin city was 4 storys that eventually connect in some way. i loved it. people who enjoy this will also enjoy the 7 part graphic novel series.

great grapic novel, great movie
sin city was a collaboration of Robert Rodriguez(from dusk till dawn) ,Quinton Tarentino (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill) , and Frank Miller (The Dark Knight). And proves it self to be and exact replica of the graphic novel but that is a good thing but not for your kids there is violence and sex so 14+

Excellent!
Alright, first off this movie it probably 13/14/15+, depending on your kid. It's really not anything too bad. For nudity, there's a brief shot of boobs, and a fair amount of talk about whores, etc. Not anything they wouldn't talk about in school anyway. For violence, it's rather graphic, but all in black and white, so it's not too noticeable. Although most of the blood in still shots is red, it's white in any other scene (or yellow I guess...) For language, "Very strong language" is a BIG overstatement. There's no F-words (or 1 or 2 at max) and maybe 3 S-words. The only way I can see they rated it that high is for talk about hookers, sex, etc. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Yeah, it's violent, but it's also good
Sin City is a horribly violent movie, I agree there. I saw it in the theaters twice, it was SOOOO good. Everything about how it was shot was magnificent. Parents, I saw it when I was 15. Am I ok now? Am I eating people and chopping people up with axes? I don't think so. I am normal, like any other kid. Thus, I feel Sin City is ok for kids, uhhh lets say, 15 and up, depending on maturity. It really depends on what you know your child can handle. But generally, 15 year olds can take it. It may surprise you but they have probably seen much worse before!
