What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the characters are almost constantly in peril ranging from enormous snow-hawks to giant squid to sailing off the edge of the world. Very young children might be frightened by the threat of beheading and the masked executioner one character faces for a crime he did not commit.

Violence & scariness: An innocent character faces threat of execution. Characters constantly face peril. Very young children might be frightened by the threat of beheading and the masked executioner one character faces.
Sexy stuff: Half of a naked backside for humor, cheeky quips of the "beef and two veg" type, more sensuality than usual for an animated movie.

Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

Families can talk about the bond of friendship and what it means to believe in someone, even when they do not believe in themselves.

What's the story?

What's the story?
In SINBAD: LEGEND OF THE SEVEN SEAS, the goddess of chaos, Eris (Michelle Pfeiffer) wants to remove the famed Book of Peace so that she can sow discord and ruin throughout the Twelve Cities. Sinbad (Brad Pitt) and his crew are good-hearted pirates seeking adventure and fortune to realize their dream of retiring to the beaches of Fiji. When Sinbad attempts to steal the all-important Book in order to ransom it for his sandy paradise, he finds himself crossing swords with his childhood friend, Proteus (Joseph Fiennes). Eris frames Sinbad for the theft of the Book, leaving Proteus--believing in his friend's innocence--to step in as Sinbad's proxy in jail. Sinbad, with Proteus' fiance Marina (Catherine Zeta Jones) as observer, must find a way to retrieve the Book within ten days or Proteus will be executed.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

This is a swashbuckling romp of a movie, which--with a couple of clever plot tweaks and some jaw-dropping animation--exceeds the low expectations you might have for the hundredth remake of the Sinbad legend. Is this a great movie? No. But with a bag of popcorn and an open mind, this flick will provide a fine getaway on the open seas. Dreamworks combined three-dimensional computer generated images for the background with two-dimensional characters crossing swords and swinging from ropes in the foreground, to stunning effect. The characters themselves are cut from standard issue Disney cloth, and no animated movie these days would be complete without an animal side-kick, here it's slobbering bulldog Spike.

You might feel like you have been here before and in many ways you have. The fast pace, lovely animation, and zingy dialogue will not distract you for long from noticing that there is little new or noteworthy in these 84 minutes of dazzle. However, there is a nice little message about friendship and duty here, which, teamed with ocean adventure, make this movie a sea-worthy vessel for the easy sailing of summer entertainment.

Dazzling special effects with some great monsters and action sequences. The rest is rubbish, with characters you don't care for and way too many sexual quips.

There you go again, CS, ignoring lessons!
Despite all the reasons for me to hate you guys, at least you usually pay attention to the lessons in movies! But not this time, oh no! You didn't mention ONCE how Sinbad was willing to sacrifice his life for a friend! You also failed to mention how Sinbad's bad behavior is just an act and that he accepts it all in the end. Overall, this is a severely underrated film. It has nearly-nonstop action, so it's very fun to watch and it's very original. I know it kinda goes against the original story, but then again, I really liked Hercules, so obviously I couldn't care less about that. Overall, I fail to see why people dislike this movie so much. It's funny, it's well thought-out, it's an overall fun experience. CS, I gotta say this: Lighten up. Just because movies tend to teach lessons, that doesn't mean it has to be its soul purpose. Even if you can't see the lessons, can't you just avoid removing a whole point for that? Seriously, you do that a lot.

We enjoyed the movie despite that there were very few "calm" scenes -lots of fast action scenes. The characters were delightful!

Great Movie!!
This is my favorite animated movie of all time!! It had great leassons for kids in it about friendship and loyalty. And the characters are great role models. The only thing that was kind of iffy in this movie was the romantic relationship between Sinbad Marina a little too much for younger kids. But in all this movie was good and taught a valuable lesson about friendship.

Great story, lots of adventure. Could be a bit advanced for younger children.

This movie has almost non-stop action, peril and fight scenes, so be careful around very young or sensitve kids. Also a breif reference to a brothel might get little kids asking questions.
