Exciting, fun, and worthy of the show

(spoilers) I loved the movie, and look forward to owning it on DVD, but it will be a while before my daughter is allowed to watch it. My main concern is when Vulcan gets destroyed. It was a great part of the plot, well written, and the special effects were great. As a lifelong fan of Star Trek, I also found it heart-rending. But I don't think my daughter needs to confront the idea of genocide until she is much older.

Words Cannot Describe How Entertaining this Film is!

Now, I am not a fan of the Star Trek series... at all. In fact, I don't even like this series. But this looked like a new start for the series; frankly, it looked awesome. So when I went, I was in for a huge surprise; it wasn't just better, it was absolutely fantastic! I loved it! It was original, thrilling, and funny! PARENTS: Although practically bloodless, it is quite intense with major battles and some frightening creature images. It also has a brief sexual encounter (no nudity). Thanks for reading, and please rent or even buy this film; it's a real treat! - Movie Man

    Loved it

If you like the Newer Star Trek series it has the same intensity. Some sensuality-They show a Green women in her bra and panties and another women in her bra-the scene is short. Other than that it's great

Really cool special effects! Everybody needs to see it (if they want to,). There is volence and swearing, so recommand this movie to children ages 8 and up.

    Good Movie

It is overall a good movie, and the "good guys" are mainly actually good people. One "lesson" I saw out of it is how people can overcome trials and hard upbringing to become good people. In other words you can decide who you are and be good despite circumstances beyond your control.

Great movie, lots of laughs for star trek fans but good for newbies too.

Be warned of one quick scene of a young Jim Kirk and a green Star fleet cadet nearly making love --both clad in underwear-- it is short lived as they get interrupted but you see both of them afterwards as if they had swimwear on. Outstanding casting...the Kirk,Bones,Spock, Chekov & Scotty characters did their homework for all the little nuances!!!! :))

Great adult Start Trek fans; ok for teens with a strong moral compass

While the overall movie was very well done--great casting, etc. I had some uncomfortable moments when my husband and I saw this prior to deciding if our 9 year old could go. The pictures of Kirk as an insanely self-destructive child and young adult leading to his ultimate leadership seemed to stretch credibility. This image presented a bad role model. Another objection was two mostly naked people clearly engaged in sexual activity. And the last objection for younger kids was the style of direction that made the violence less stylized/distant as in the series and prior movies and more raw/visceral. I don't think a taste for "being in the moment" in violence is something I want for my children.

You don't need to be a fan of the TV series to love this movie, in fact, if you 've never seen an episode of the original TV series, you'll love this movie. Fast paced, funny, edgy, it's a great all r ound movie.

    Great Family Afternoon

The movie was fine, my daughter is 9 and loved it to death. It was a wonderful way to spend a hot afternoon together as a family. The one scene with a green girl was over so fast I doubt my daughter could even remember now two days later it was there.

Okay for my 6 and 9 year olds - but had to cover their eyes a few times.

Great film overall. What to watch for: Kirk gets drunk & has a bar fight; Kirk and a green woman in bra/panties fooling around in bed; mild violence. The only other alert I would give is the annoying Disney-like trend to start the movie with a shocking grief-filled death scene. (Think Nemo).

Great movie adds near sex scene to push rating to PG-13

"softcore sex scene" is much closer to the truth than "characters in their underwear make out on a bed" as you state in your review. That scene was truly unnecessary to the plot of the movie, as Kirk's womanizing ways are established all through the film over and over. I really loved the movie, I just get annoyed when they throw stuff like this in just to push their rating to a PG-13 to get teens to see it.

A family success! (from grandpa down to 7yr.-old)

The whole family saw this together - aged 64 to seven! We all enjoyed it. It's a bit too sophisticaed for the youngest viewer, but as a parent I wasn't too concerned about any particular content. My son was entertained, and I think even gleaned a good lesson or two. The best aspect was sharing this movie as a family! You can see me review this movie with my father, at www.youtube.com/gabndad

Great, but for teens /adults only.

This movie ties many of the old shows into their new plot. It was very good! The only concerns are sexual content and some language. You do see Kirk and another woman with most of their clothes off and kissing, and Uhura in her bra and underwear. The language is mostly mild except for 2-3 s-words.

    Awesome!!

Our whole family loved it!! Even my daughter who claims she hates sci-fi went to see it a 2nd time. We took our mature for their ages 9 & 11 year old children without issue, but some content might be iffy for under 12s.

My daughter is eight and she really liked this movie. We introduced her to the fantasy/sci fi genre at a young age because she never had an issue with nightmares or being scared. Star Trek is a great movie. It's fun, action-packed and not really scary. The adult situations are not intense and are for comic effect.

    Absolutely and amazingly fantastic

This is one the of the most absurdly amazing movies in the whole entire world. Though that is, of course, a matter of opinion. I thought they did an abolutely wonderful job in the recasting of the original characters, and bringing Leonard Nimoy into the movie was a stroke of genius. There was a bar fight near the beginning that was definitely touching on the violent side, a bit of language, and a bedroom scene that was most emphatically not appropriate, but it was a truly spectacular movie.

Kirk and Spock hate each other up until the very end, the bad guy's agenda is one of the most cliched in the book, the plot is so tangled even Alexander the Great couldn't unknot it, and the best part is it doesn't matter. Just like the original series, the point of seeing the film isn't to have a good space adventure--it's to see the characters interact with one another. Bones is hilarious chasing Kirk around after giving him a vaccine that causes an allergic reaction ("Ohmigod what's wrong with your hands?"), Getif and Scotty make an interesting team, and Bruce Greenwood's quietly amused Captain Pike is a great improvement to the Pike of Star Trek's 1966 pilot episode. This is an excellent movie. Chris Pine captures Shatner's Kirk almost perfectly, which was a great pleasure (I am a fan of the original series), Leonard Nimoy's role was a bit confusing, but it was fun, and by the end of the movie, everything has resolved itself into the Star Trek I know and love.

well, guys you've met this year's "Dark Knight". This is the best movie of the year so far and I can't deny... I hate the old Star Trek, but this one is beyond great. The violence is a bit... explosive may I say, but your kids could handle it. The sex is not too big of an issue, but there is a scene with a girl undressing. Language is a little more excessive than you might expect. "D-mn is used, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, but I think there is a brief "f--k" in it. great movie, all of it was amazing.

Great film for tweens and teens. Adults will enjoy, too.

This film is as great, maybe even better, than the original series. The actors play the roles perfectly, although a Spock/Uhura relationship seems weird. Parents, there is some innuendoes, and Kirk beds a green lady. The violence is pretty tame though.

A must see for a star trek fan.

No Spoilers dont worry. Star trek Is A Movie That You Will Love...The kids?...They might like it and they might not. if they are fans of star trek then they will like this movie. if they dont know that much about star trek chances are they might not like it. The movie takes place before the 1966 Tv series. it shows how Kirk and spock met each-other and became friends and got on their ship. The movie has scenes of kirk and spock growing up like: Kirk gets born. Spock gets bullied, Kirk driving a car and nearly gets killed. etc..etc. Violence 3/5: The violence is not to strong but it does show scenes of romulans and people getting zapped with phasers and sometimes getting attacked with spear things..etc..etc. so the violence in the movie is not to strong and should not be intense or to bad for your kid. Naughty behavior. (i had to call it that so i could publish the review) Their is a scene where kirk and some alien woman are in bed kissing and they are in underwear. Its brief and its not so bad. Kirk makes a joke about a farmboy doing it with animals Younger kids may not understand it. and when kirk notices a girl he goes something like: Hey their! *in a naughty way* etc...etc. So it gets a 2/5. Language: Kirk says the S word Their's d*mn The F word is said in a beastie boys song (song is sabotage) But i could be missed by a younger viewer but teenages/adults will probably notice it. Godd*mn is used and a** is used. so the language is not that bad but pretty bad. 2and a half/5. Is the movie good: YES IT IS its a very good movie that trekkies will love if you have not seen this movie go see it now before it leaves theaters. its a must see for trekkies! 5/5

    One of my favorite movies!

First of all, I love almost any kind of science fiction and fantasy, so no matter what this was going to be a treat. But I was amazed at how good it was, and definitely didn't want it to end! The acting was superb, the story excellent and the special effects mind-blowing. The casting was spot-on and I think everyone will find something to like - I never got into the original television show, but this is now one of my favorite movies!
