Very educational, but scary.
This teaches about the past of Jesus Christ. I didn't realize how horrible and painful Jesus's death was until I saw this. This movie will make yew feel proud to be a Christian and so you should:) And roles models.... Jesus is a perfect role model! He teaches to love one another.... even your enemies. This movie looks so real! Like they just went back in time and recorded the whole story!

The best movie about Jesus Christ. It makes you break into tears to see how much Jesus loves us and what he did to save us.

Love love love love love love love love this!
I LOVE THIS!!! Makes me proud to be a Christian! This should get 1,000,000/5 stars ;) This violence did disturb me though. But I don't care. All I care about is the fact that this is Christian. I agree completely with ilovecookiez.

Simply amazing
Amazing movie. Jesus is a great role model for all of us. I thought that it was very violent, but gave a very powerful message. From seeing this movie, I got an idea of what it was like on that Good Friday 2,000 years ago.

Best movie for all ages to watch
Some parents may say that this movie is inappropriate for children because a lot of it is "horrifying" to watch, but I would definitely let my son watch this movie at any age. This movie is the story of our Savior Jesus Christ, this movie is nothing compared to what actually happened to him. The true story of Jesus is far more horrifying to watch than this. The movie teaches everyone of all ages about what happened to our Lord and it helps them develop a stronger love and devotion towards him. I recommend this movie to absolutely everybody.

It doesn't matter what you say. I don't even care about the graphic violence. This is a film that every person in the human race should eventually see.

In this movie, it was extremely interesting when jesus was being whipped, that mary saw satan walking behind the jewish elders on the opposite side of the courtyard. overall, I absolutely love this movie!!!!

Iffy for any age, but can be viewed by kids if there parents watch it with them and explain the violence.
Parents should know this is a very frightening movie for young kids for disturbing imagry, but if you know that your kids won't get scared and you explain the violence it could be viewed by 9 and up.
Also I agree with Commonsense-media for once, it will disturb kids, I'm extremely desensitized to violence and gore though (Doesn't mean I will go out and kill someone, or not care for someone who was beaten, or think violence is OK, it just means I don't get disturbed by it.) anyways it could be viewed by a kid as long as they are mature enough.

People need to understand b4 seeing...
people who wanna watch this movie need to understand why it was filmed. it wasnt filmed for cool graphics or to show horrifying gruesome violence like in your average horror film. This movie was designed to show people just how much Jesus loves us--He would die a horrible death of pain and torture. But the violence in this movie is extreme. He did this so we wouldnt have to. So obviously this movie is for the mature teen that understands what its all about. And the violence really should bother people to think that this did really happen to Jesus just so that we could go to Heaven due to the perfect sacrifice provided to us thru Jesus.

All though I would love to say that this movie is fine for 13+, some thirteen year olds STILL get scared by the image of Jesus being crucified... So, iffy for 13+. But it's a story from the Bible, so if you're going to tell me that this movie is evil and horrible, then you have another thing coming.

This Movie Must Have Converted Thousands...
I may be fourteen, but I am a true Christian. Therefore, the bloodshed and brutality do not matter to me, but rather the selfless act of sacrifice coming from Jesus himself. For the general audience (including non-Christians), I'd say the violence may be too much for someone else under 15. (But parents should know their children - if they're Christian and you know they can handle this, then in that case I recommend it for 13+.)
The portrayal of the people flogging, whipping, and crucifying Jesus may be graphic, but it proves that love is a powerful thing (esp. to us Christians) and sacrifice is sometimes crucial to save/help the ones we love (maybe not in this extreme form, though). When I watched this, I couldn't stop sobbing and choking up, it being so inspiring and sad and all (in a good way). But to be honest, I loved it and did not regret a single tear. The acting is simply superb. It even gave me a stronger heart and piece of mind. I will never have enough good words to describe this movie, with only a few bad ones. I have mentioned this before, but just to be sure, I'll say it again - this is not only excessively bloody but the crow pecking out the criminal's eyeball made me avert my eyes. There is a whole 10 minutes dedicated to the flogging of Jesus, which is not only an awful (though somewhat needed) sight but we hear his cries of pain, ripping of skin, his blood splattered around him. The whipping is more tolerable, but I don't think it is as long. Some soldiers press the crown of thorns into Jesus's head, which makes blood trinkle down his face also.
And the nailing... well, let's just leave it to that.

Possibly the best movie ever!
This is such a good movie. It really helped me view my religion in a different way. people should know,if you aren't a christian this movie isn't for you. I saw this when i was 11 the only part i didn't like was the scourging at the pillar. I watched through my hands in that scene. Satan was also a little scary but overall I LOVED the movie. Also thought it was cool how they were actually speaking the language and had English subtitles :)

R for extremely intense graphic violence including disturbing images.
!!~~!! Listen carefully to this: This movie is a Christian movie, about Jesus. However, it is not for the faint of heart. And I mean this literally. When this movie came out, a 50 year old woman went to see it. From the intensity of the graphic violence in the film, she had a heart attack, and DIED. She literally died, because she could not handle the intensity. Warning!

As someone who's not Christian, I went to see this with my Christian grandmother and my non-Christian husband -- my gramma was very moved and cried, and my husband almost fell asleep. The flogging scenes were very difficult for my gramma to watch (she said she didn't know Jesus went through all that). I was very touched by Mary's love for her son (I cried when she was remembering him as a child). As for the anti-Semetic comments, I don't feel that Mel Gibson took any liberties with that -- I believe that's really how the people would have acted then (and even now) if someone claimed to be the Messiah. I was disappointed with the ending, but overall it's a fantastic film that should be seen by all adults -- Christians will probably appriciate their Christ more, and non-Christians can perhaps see what all of the hype about Jesus is about. Children should definitely NOT see this -- it's more graphic than most horror films.
