Parents need to know that, like all of Tyler Perry's Madea films, this comedy alternates between comedy (the parts featuring the Madea character) and drama (a subplot featuring a prostitute). Violence is both comic (Madea resists arrest) and disturbing (a pimp abuses young prostitutes), and there are several sexual references -- to prostitution, prison romance, and more. Although the consumerism isn't too overt, there are many scenes of cigarette and marijuana smoke, as well as drinking. Language includes "hell," "damn," and the like.
Positive messages:Although the movie's overall messages of forgiveness and taking responsibility for your own actions are positive, there's a lot of questionable behavior in the film.
Positive role models:Madea is vengeful to the point of craziness, and characters lie, cheat, and betray one another.
Violence:Some of the violence is cartoonish, like when Madea shoves police officers and resists arrest, or when she knocks out a burly woman in prison. But some of the other violence is disturbing, like when young prostitutes are physically abused by a pimp. Discussion of rape.
Sex:Three of the main characters are current or former prostitutes, and several "women of the night" are shown on the street picking up tricks. In one scene, a prostitute is shown in bed (bare shoulders and legs) with a man in underwear sleeping on top of her. There are also discussions about life as a prostitute. Two couples kiss and embrace, while several characters flirt -- in the case of Joe and his bawdy elderly friends, pretty raunchily. A masculine woman prisoner comes on to a fellow prisoner.
Language:Language includes "bastard," "damn," "pimp," "hell," "oh my God," "titty," and the like.
Consumerism:Featured brands include Apple/Mac, Coca-Cola, Schweppes Ginger Ale, and Big K-Mart.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking:Joe smokes marijuana on a few occasions -- as a joint and also using a bong. At a party of mostly seniors, most attendees drink beer and other cocktails. Several characters smoke cigarettes, and there are many conversations about drug addiction and rehab.

A good movie to people who know and love Madea and Tyler Perry
Madea goes to jail was one of tyler perry's best movies it had a good storyline and tought a good lesson... as always Madea conduct is iffy for kids but thats just her.
dissapointed not appropriate for tweens. my niece was really looking forward to watching this. sometimes approve pg 13 movies for her. she is 11 years old. will be going into 6th grade next year. not funny at all really for her. message was too serious, grown up.
"This was a fun movie about lawyers and troubled women"
There might be a few scenes starring one female character named, "Madea"
But don't worry, these moments are rare and usually forgotten. Its a powerful movie that tries to keep it light hearted with some scenes of humor. the majority of the swears in this are swears that some kids hear everyday.
Its all about the family that is watching.
Perfect for kids older 12, but not for tweens and some teens
The things you need to know is the fact that every Tyler Perry movie is Christian and all have positive themes. With that said, your kids must be mature enough to handle this. While I realize some parents wont let their kids see this because of the prostitution, which makes sense at a certain age, i think that I could watch this at 13. I have seen other Tyler Perry Movies. It depends on YOUR kids and how mature they are and if they can handle it.
This was sooooo much better than the last Madea movie! There was a lot more Madea in it and the drama plot in it was actally good. But part of the plot revolves around a prostitute so be prepared to hear and see some sexual dialoge. There was also a scene where MAdea's husband was smoking pot which i was a little suprised to see in a PG-13 movie. There is also some comic violence in the film but none of it is graphic and Madea isnt really all that good of a role model. But there is a good message at the end about taking responsibilty for your own actions. It's a good but mature for a PG-13 rating.
I think this is a pretty hard movie to review… since its basically two very different stories. One is very funny about Madea actually going to jail but the other is about a prostitute who has some very scary experiences. It depends on your kid and how sensitive they are.
This is the first tyler perry madea film I have watched and I thought this movie was funny!! Tyler Perry comes out with a bang with directing and playing Mabel Simmons AKA (MADEA)
I thought that the movie was the best tyler perry movie yet.The movie had a great message and all madea movies have a important message that someday we all need to learn.
This movie set a very clear message and is a very good movie to explain what life is about to your kids. In this movie there was some pimp's and prostitues. This movie shows that you can overcome bad choices you have made in your life and turn things around for yourself. I loved it!
I thought this movie made a very clear message that you can do whatever you set your mind to. Although this movie did have inappropriate things like prostitues and sexual violence it sent a very good clear message. :]
This movie was funny..My favorite part was when madea was washing her clothes and then the white women was like "Watchu gon Do?" I laughed Hysterically...Good Movie Y'all
The movie starts out with two problems: 1) Madea doing something bad, which is totally expected, then 2) A prostitute in trouble. Madea should've gone to jail, but gets off easily like usual, but before that the prostitute (Candy) isn't helpful in deciding she shouldn't go to jail, but somebody bails her out, an old school friend. Throughout the movie, the old school friend does his best to help Candy, but is scolded by his fiance. Crazy Mr. Brown tries to help Madea, but it doesn't work. Halfway through, Candy decides to turn her life around, get a job and get some help with her problems. It's a mix of good role models and some innapropriate things.
This movie is great...it teaches morals..and forgiveness...how to help people and how to overcome the past and except the future! This movie is so FUNNY! yes it has some potty mouth words in it that are very minor but it is still okay for kids 13 and up.
I really enjoyed it. I just wished they focused on Madea a little more. There was just one bad scene were the girl was in bed with a guy on top of her. 9+
