What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this cheerful, engaging special based on the popular Wonder Pets show on Nick Jr. teaches young kids about teamwork in a catchy operetta format. Classroom pets band together with pluck, humor, and imagination to save an imperiled baby blowfish. Soon after the Wonder Pets themselves are in danger, but it's never too scary for even the smallest viewers.

  • Kids learn important lessons about teamwork, friendship, and cooperation.
  • Teamwork message is clearly and consistently conveyed by animal friends who are "not too big, not too tough, but when we get together, we've got the right stuff!"
  • The Wonder Pets are models of cheerful teamwork and collaboration. They rely on bravery and creativity to save the day, and they appreciate one another's skills and talents.
  • Characters are in very mild peril.

What's the story?

In SAVE THE WONDER PETS, a musical special based on the TV show, Linny the guinea pig (voiced by Sofie Zamchick), Tuck the turtle (Teala Dunn), and Ming-Ming the chick (Danica Lee) respond to a call to save a baby blowfish in distress. Soon they themselves are in peril, as a gently gliding whale inhales them along with the rest of his food. Along the way, they demonstrate their trademark good cheer and a belief that teamwork can overcome anything.

Is it any good?

Wonder Pets is surely the first TV show for preschoolers that is performed entirely in operetta, where the music is recorded with a live orchestra and much of the dialogue is sung. Very sensitive children might be alarmed by the situation that the Wonder Pets find themselves in, but the episode is handled so lightly and optimistically that they might not even notice. It's sweet to see the mini-trio of marine fans who help the self-rescue along.

Two- to 4-year-olds are sure to find the story, the rich and textured animation, and the singing captivating. The action moves along at a nice pace and the songs are sweet but not cloying -- bearable for parents who will be asked to play the DVD over and over again.

What families can talk about

  • Families can talk about how the Wonder Pets work together to save their animal friends. What did each friend contribute to the rescue?

  • Parents can also talk about the pets that children may have in their
preschool classrooms or at home. If these animals had superpowers, what do you think they would be? If they could sing, what do you think they would sound like?

  • What did
Linny, Tuck, and Ming-Ming find out when they worried that the animals
they had saved in the past might forget them?

Okay, I'm 12 and I like this!
Wonder Pets! has absolutely NO problems! I mean, during Summer vacay I would actually get up early with my friends Madisyn and Kenzie and we would watch this. We're all 13/12/11 and we like this show! It has a good message, and it is as suspensful as it gets in the mind of a 2 year old. We even wrote a play on it! If that isn't a good show, I must need therapy, because I do like it alot. Watch Wonder Pets! Because it is a good show. (I like the Save the Swan; Save the Puppy)

Wonderful show for toddlers
My 2 1/2 year old son LOVES this show, and I think it's just perfect for him. the little animals have about the mentality of a 3 year old, but they go on fun adventures to save "baby animals" - it's just at the level that my kid really gets whats going on. We really only let him watch this show, Jack's Big Music Show, and one or two others.. because most of the others go right over his head... but he really gets this show and can describe most of what happens in an episode.

my daughter who is 4 told me she saw this on TV one day with her dad. So I bought her the dvd. This show turned out to be too much for her. She got all stressed out and anxious everytime someone was in trouble. it really freaked her out because she cared so much. We ended up stopping the dvd

I like this...
I found out about this show last year and it's got alot of things kids like in it. It has a message at the end of every show, and through out all the epidoes, theres a message about team work, and the cute charecters make getting the message fun. Theres Ling-Ling the duck, Tuck the turtle and Lenny the guinea pig! Their cute!
