Love the previous movies, but this one really put me off.
I should qualify my review by telling you I left after 30 minutes or so. The movie seems to revolve around the sexualization and degradation of women (prostitutes, strippers, many many women in next to nothing). I was so disappointed in this. A friend brought her son and walked out of the movie for this reason. Since she was upset about it, I decided to preview the movie before bringing my son. Glad I did. I saw enough in the first half hour to know I won't be bringing my son. We LOVE the previous X-men movies, so I'm highly disappointed and annoyed with how they did this one.

Families like superheros too, so quit trying to turn us away.
The movie plot and special effects were great. Character development was well-done and story line matched my memories of comic books as a kid. BUT once again movie producers worked hard to pander to the natural man as best they could. There was no real reason for underwear-clad prostitutes or several of the other scenes. Don't go thinking that it's just a few innuendos: the director does his best to make me and my family uncomfortable while staying just under the rated-R line.

Degradation of women
I'm surprised the reviewer didn't give more detail about the scantily-clad women in this movie. It's not just that they are in lingerie--- it's that the majority of women in this movie are portrayed as prostitutes/hookers. I don't have a problem, necessarily, with my 14 yo son seeing women in lingerie when they are portrayed in positive, healthy relationships-- but these women in the movie were not. Pop culture is rife with this, and I hope we can begin to address the sexualization, degradation, and violence against women in our culture. I think it's silly that we get excited about the F bomb but totally miss the boat on healthy vs unhealthy sexuality.

Thought it was just fine
I started a tradition with my son (7 1/2) that my dad did with me. I pulled my son out of school at 11am we went to the first showing of a movie that opened today. It was X-men First Class. It was a good movie (saw it in 2D. not worth 3D but other than Avatar what is). The violence was nothing that he hasn't seen in cartoons or Star Wars cartoons or movies. That said here are the heads up that I love to get from other parents:
1) Approx 5% is in subtitles. Not an issue just a heads up. I chose to whisper what was going on to my son, but you can go either way.
2) Just one F-bomb. Actually appropirate for the character and the scene. I would love to say my son has never heard that but I would be lying. Only once, quick and scene moved on. My son never asked or even brought it up.
3) Don't bother staying till the end of the credits. A lot of Marvel movies have a 1 min film at the end (Iron Man, Thor). This one did not.

Language and Behavior
The one memorable use of the F word sticks with you for days. It may come out as funny but it is extremely inappropriate in the sense of the use of the word. There are many girls who are dressed with very little clothing. They are in Las Vegas so there are plenty of Hookers, and Strippers and Call girls. It's not something I'd take my little ones to see. My 15 year old probably but none under that.

Good Movie - Iffy Content
This movie provided great backstory info. for the other X-Men movies. However, there are several scenes with skimpily clad women and one use of the f-word along with other minor expletives.

Great Superhero Flick
X-Men First Class isn't just a good superhero movie, it's a good movie, period. I thought the way they tied in actual history to the plot was brilliant. I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I wish we could have seen more of Xavier and Magneto's friendship though, I thought the scenes between the two of them were the best. And sure it is a superhero film so ya the dialogue is cheesy at times but thats about my only complaint. The ending also does a perfect job of setting up a sequel which I am totally on board for. While it is not quite on the level of X-Men 2, it's still a very good film

Not what I expected, in a good way
I am not a fan of these types of movies, but this movie was very interesting throughout. I enjoyed it very much. Violence was pretty intense, but, as it is PG-13, nothing graphic. Action packed. I enjoyed it. Good story to it. I would watch it again. Another good thing about this movie is that you don't have to watch it in order, much like The Da Vinci Code. If this is the first movie you watch in the X-Men series, it will not be a problem.

Disgusted
I'm about ready to give up on commonsense reviews. The parents' reviews are more accurate than the official reviews. Several parents have already noted the excessive violence, the bad language, and probably the most outrageous for our family, the scenes where women are portrayed as hookers. What kid should be watching a movie where sex for sale is part of the script? Give me a break -- enough already!

Can't recommend this one to anyone, especially not to children.
This movie could have been good, but was ruined by the constant portrayal of women wearing next-to-nothing, as playthings for men. When are women going to get tired of this continual representation of them as only having value for their appearance or sexual appeal? In other words, grandmotherly or highly intelligent women who keep their clothes on aren't worth much. I found it highly offensive and frankly, extremely trashy. The language was terrible, as well. I wish we had never seen any of it---it wasn't worth wading through the sleaze to get to the actual story. Yet another sad movie made with a junior-high school boy mentality.

First Class is the BEST CLASS!!!
This is the greatest X-Men and superhero film so far. The story and acting are strong, and the action is spectacular. I would also like to say that the performance of James McVoy as Charles Xavier was the greatest performance since Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada.

Great Values lesson & know your kiddo
This is a bit of a challenge, My youngest can handle it but not sure all elementry age kids could. A good values based movie with lots to talk with your children about afterwards, definitely see it with them. Wish they had simply left out the foul language but it is by no means pervasive. I think the chance to talk about why humans fear that which is different is well worth having to express your dissapointment in some of the language, and unfortunatly my kids hear the same language in the grocery store today.

Some people shouldnt be allowed to review on this site
To every oversensitive, easily offended, delicate little "flower" that has reviewed this film,I have a message for you:Stop...just stop...I have seen this film twice in theaters and found nothing in it that people havent seen already on daytime TV
First off,the "infamous" f-bomb that was dropped, your children hear worse than that at school or on the streets...cant keep your little snowflakes pure forever so why not start swearing around them now?
And the sexual content...was there any nudity at all?Did you see any nip-slips or any graphic sexual content?No...neither did I...but on here I see the uneducated masses looking for more things to complain about...do not make mountains out of mole hills because you might just cause an earthquake that takes everybody down with you
Now...moving on to the film in question...I enjoyed it greatly!Enough to where I would pay to see it twice, perhaps even a third time
From the acting to the script...from beginning to end...I saw perfection!
Sure, there was a small, barely noticeable flaw here and there, but nothing that would ruin your fun
James McAvoy and Micheal Fassbender were amazing as Charles and Erik...not to mention the performance by Kevin Bacon as the villainous Sebastian Shaw
January Jones though...Im sure everybody agrees that we could just forget that she was ever in the film (yikes)
To make a long review/rant short 90% of these parents and kids know not of what they speak...misguided fools they are as well as oversensitive crybabies who shudder in fear of women in evening wear like little children (another thing, the "sexual" scenes everybody is whining about only take up 2% of the film...roughly 5 to 10 minutes)
So my advice to you,let your kids see it...they will certainly enjoy this piece of cinematic gold where they will learn the importance of teamwork, unity and the courage to be who you are,no matter what you may look like or no matter what your powers (or species) may be
Enjoy the ride true believers! (Excelsior!!)

Very good
I think it's not really the violence there's a bit of language the word bi**h is used and f**k i thought there was quite a lot of sexual content there are strippers and hookers and a woman does a mind trick and makes a Russian general think he's having sex you see the image of him having sex with the lady and also you see misteqe with no cloths in blue skin but other then that it's a great movie

There were issues.
This was a good movie, however, I had a few issues. I watched this with my kids (13 and 10) since the other X-Men movies were innocuous and the DVD case said it was PG (not PG-13).
The sexuality was overt and Wolverine's cameo could just as easily have used "screw" without losing much effect. The scene with the coin was telegraphed and not really gory, but may affect some younger kids. Overall, this movie was not what I expected in a super hero movie.

I like how only the piggish men are saying the sexuality is fine.
Nobody was saying that the sexuality is bad as in an adult's view. So, I don't understand why all the guys are nerd raging about it. The main point is that it is too much FOR THE KIDS. It's x-men, kids love x-men...it was too much to rate it so low! A mom and RESPECTFUL dad have all the rights to rate it low or leave due to it being too much for the kids!

Good movie for a mature 11+
I know this movie didn't get as good of reviews as the other X-Men releases did, but I liked it. The movie seemed to be more plot focused instead of just focusing on gratuitous violence.

Just watch the Dark Knight again instead
First off, there were some really great uses of super powers, and not just one or two times. They really experimented with them and we got to see lots of great action. Excellent acting from the to leads and Kevin Bacon turned out in full force as the main villain. That being said, I would not watch this movie again, and in fact I didn't watch almost a full quarter of it because of the over-the-top sexuality. I don't know how this movie got away with anything less than an R rating, but between strip clubs (not just one; several) characters walking around in lingerie, or completely naked with some blue body pain on, fully naked female mannequins getting groped, and one character fully naked under the covers changing her appearance to become specifically more sexually attractive to another character, there weren't many scenes in this movie that was actually watchable, let alone palatable. It's pretty bad when the 'modestly-clad' women are wearing mini skirts, low-cut shirts and go-go boots. And what's worse, all the sexuality is taken as normal and acceptable. One character says she doesn't mind people men looking at her naked, and even the movie's ultimate moral protagonist uses his super powers more than once to pick up women in bars, and enjoys his visit to a strip club. This kind of overt sexuality role modeling is appalling, and I have no intention of recommending this movie to anyone for any reason.

Disappointing and bothersome.
WHOA, WHOA, WHOA!!!!! F-bomb really?! I cannot believe this movie got a PG-13 rating. At the rate it went it needed an R rating. I mean come on . . . "intense sequences of action and violence, brief, partial nudity, and language" including the lovely F-bomb. Who in the heck rated this?! My family loves the X-men series, and "my family" includes my little sister. As soon as the F-bomb came up, the movie was stopped. This should be rated 'R'!! I would never want my 13 year old to see or hear the content in this movie! It was very disappointing to say the least.
