A good band to allow kids to "rebel" with
I have "ignored" the bad language and chose to allow my boy to listen to Green Day. Their views on war are compatible with ours and I know kids must have something to "rebel" with. This band gives my son a chance to find a voice different from ours but also gives us things to talk about. We listen on the way to school and, believe me, I know every word...!

Bold Music and Lyrics - okay for later teens, but not tweens!
As a lover of punk music, I can't fault Green Day for bringing the sound back with a vengeance. HOWEVER, Common Sense is way off in recommending this for age 13 and up. I think there are few 13-year-olds who will grasp the sarcasm behind some of the lyrics, and I certainly hope most of them won't get the references to sodomy, lobotomies and violent revolution. My 13-year-old son bought this before we'd really reviewed the lyrics and themes, and we're stuck with it now - as well as with a teen son who now has a whole new vocabulary he enjoys using whenever he wants to provoke us.

good
Good music, good message, bad language. Language - s--- and f--- scattered throughout album as well as milder words: godd--- and b--tards. Violence - references to suicide, war, bombs and the like. Sex - one use of orgasm and not described at all in any way. Drinking Drugs or Smoking - some references. Racist or Religiously Offensive Content - References to "white boys" and "black girls" plus a few godd--- or omigod type words.

Very good invitation to engage in mature conversation with emotionally mature children
Loved it! This cd is much less "explicit" than past ones....it deals primarily with the current problems we face in a post-Bush time. There is only one song that uses the "f" word...and quite frankly, if your child(ren) are emotionally mature, I think it can lead to meaningful conversation regarding many issues facing our nation (and the world) today!

21st Century Breakdown
A good CD, but you'll hear some strong language on about 5 songs. Otherwise, it's completely appropriate.

Poor Rating from Common Sense -Lyrics from Horseshoes And Handgrenades: "I'm gonna burn it all down I'm gonna rip it out Well everything that you employ Was meant for me to destroy to the ground now So don't f**k me around because I'll shoot you down I'm gonna drink, fight and f**k and pushing my luck all the time now" A bit much for 13, I think.

Green Day is Back!
I must disagree with the 13+ rating here. There is more sex, violence, and drug use than described in the parent's guide. The sex is not just one 'reference to orgasm,' there's also a reference to sodomy (of a dog), and a few other innuendos. Also, the violent references are literate, but harsh and brutal-feeling. It also has an anti-religious song: "East Jesus Nowhere." As an athiest, I didn't mind, but it could be very offensive to others.

Great band, great music, bad words.
I love Green Day! Contains some violent and drinking, drug, and smoking references. Plus, some mild to strong language including some "F" words. I rate this OFF for 12 and under, IFFY for 13-14, and ON for 15 and older.

Love it. I've been listening to this band for a few years now. They give out their opinions on how they see the world and most of them are true. Even all of them. About the age of people who should listen to this... I think it depends. Depends on how open-minded you are. Violence... it talks about wars and destruction... language... everything's good. Drugs... just a little. This album's a perfect glimpse of our society today.

THE BEST ALBUM EVER MADE!!!!!!!
The language is mostly all that concerns me. Infrequently, they use the words "h--l", "godd--n", "n----r", "s--t", and (their favorite) "f--k". They may not use the most appropriate words or sing about the most good themes, but they are (musically) extremely good role models. If you can't get the whole album, I recommend the songs: "21 Guns", "Know Your Enemy", "21st Century Breakdown", "Before The Lobotomy", "East Jesus Nowhere", "?Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl)", and "American Eulogy".

Great Album-Use Your Noodle
Look, 21st Century Breakdown is a great album. Every song is catchy and enjoyable. Yeah, Green Day swears (some S Words, F Words, and one use of the N word), but if you'll let your kids buy a CD with the Explicit Lyrics sticker, than you should expect swearing! Although, I will admit, swearing in songs, (especially these catchy ones), may be worse than movies, since it's to a tune that you may get stuck in your head.

Its sweet and i got it for free.
Well i was not really a fan of Green Day. My friend had said to get it but i was never into it. He let me borrowed his and i had to get it. I got it from this website amazon4free.tk and i could not believe it. Right now im listening to horseshoes on my ipod so you can get it there if you don't want to spend money for it.

I LOVE IT
I think that you have to be able to handle it. Yes one or two songs swear, like mass hysteria and horseshoes and handgrenades but I thought common sense was right with the age.
