What parents need to know

Parents need to know that kids will want this "soundtrack" for the U.S. Olympic team because of the popular contributors: Taylor Swift, Clique Girlz, Chris Brown, 3 Doors Down, and more. The songs are inspirational and all about finding your dreams and being a champion. The proceeds from the sale of these songs or the entire soundtrack go to support the U.S. team.

  • Obviously, lots of champion talk, being the best, fighting for your dreams; one song about being "perfect" has some unrealistic expectations and another talks about being competitive.
  • One line in "Warrior" says "bangin' them like rival hoods."
  • "Hold me now so we can feel alive tonight" is as bad as it gets.
  • "Sh-t" is bleeped out of Flypside's "Champion." One song is in Spanish.
  • Cadillac and Chevy are mentioned once. Although the album promotes AT&T, all proceeds from the album sales are being donated to Team USA.

What's the story?

The AT&T TEAM USA SOUNDTRACK is a compilation of exclusive tracks recorded by some of today's top artists like Nelly, Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat, Goo Goo Dolls, and Taylor Swift, in collaboration with AT&T, to inspire and support American athletes in the Beijing Olympics. It's a compilation of pop, rock, rap, R&B, and country music, and the proceeds go to support the U.S. Team.

Is it any good?

Every four years, the Olympics help renew our American pride and spirit, and the AT&T Team USA soundtrack is full of songs to inspire and ignite the spark within all of us. There's something for the whole family -- from Colbie Caillat's easy, feel-good song, "Somethin' Special" to the Goo Goo Dolls rockin' "Real." Taylor Swifts' "Change" is an anthem for the champion in everyone, and "To Remember" by Josh Kelley, heart-tuggingly serenades, "we're so proud of you/not just for the glory/for everything you do/you've given us a story that forever we will use." Cheesy at times, but always motivating, this CD will keep the Olympic spirit going with these cool, varied tracks -- and help support Team USA at the same time. Now that's worth a gold medal.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about the hype that surrounds the Olympics every year. Do you think it's a good idea for artists to get associate their music with the Olympics? When you hear the songs while watching the Olympics, will it make you want to buy the music more? Do you think some of the songs depict unrealistic expectations for athletes or individuals, or promote the idea that winning is most important?
