American Idol: Season 5: Encores
What’s the Story?
Well yeah, they can all sing. In fact, AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 5: ENCORES shows that some of them can sing really well. If you watched this season of the competition on the edge of your chair, rooting for Kellie, Kevin, or Bucky, you'll enjoy the accomplished, over-the-top performances of familiar songs -- by vocalists who must have kicked major butt in their local karaoke bars back home. High points include Bucky Covington's energetic take on "Superstition," and Mandisa's retro-disco but heartfelt rendition of "I'm Every Woman." In "Walking After Midnight," Kellie Pickler delivers a surprisingly sultry version, complete with gutsy background vocals and bluesy harmonica fills, and Elliott Yamin covers the jazz/cabaret side nicely with "Moody's Mood for Love."
Is It Any Good?
All in all, there's a nice variety of voices and musical styles on this CD, plus there's nothing objectionable. But unless you or your kids are absolute died-in-the-wool American Idol addicts, there's no reason to buy this CD, because there isn't a shred of originality in the instrumental arrangements, vocals, or even the song choices.
