Why We Rated This on for Ages 6 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

With songs like, "Nobody's Perfect" and "Life's What You Make It," this is an album full of feel-good pop tunes. Also, Miley is a perfect role model for kids: likable, wholesome, and friendly.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

Hannah Montana is in itself a franchise that tween girls love to spend cash on. Although there's no direct product connection, the laundry list of Hannah products is undeniably tied to this album.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About The Best of Both Worlds Concert Soundtrack

Parents need to know that this is a perfectly acceptable album for kids. The songs are innocuous, the energy level is high, and the theme throughout is all about having a good time. Except for the snippets of screaming fans, this live album is stripped of the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus mania and depends more on the entertainment of the actual music and lyrics than the hype. Parents will appreciate the mentions of issues such as self-esteem and frustration ("Nobody's Perfect" will provide kids with a catchy way to vent their feelings), but this is really a party album, so nothing gets too heavy. The CD comes with a DVD featuring concert highlights, behind-the-scenes footage, and a video and photo slideshow.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the Hannah Montana phenomenon. What makes her so appealing? Why has the show become such a big hit? What makes her different from other young celebrities? Why do you think she's so grounded? Families can also talk about how the music of Miley/Hannah differs from her concerts and TV series. Without the visual effects (no 3-D here) how entertaining is the music? How do you think Miley's musical career is aided by high-tech concerts, a TV show, and a fun, fashionable image?

    Over-Commercialized, Bubblegum pop GARBAGE

In terms of appropriateness, it's perfectly fine for all ages. In terms of MUSIC however, it is absolutly HORRIBLE! The melodies are unoriginal, The skill needed to play is mediocre, and Miley/Hannahs tendency to oversing is painfully obvious. For more info go to: www.youtube.com/antidisneymovement
