Lavigne's most mature release to date is NOT for young kids.

Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing is definitely her most mature release to date. And it's certainly not her best, but it's still pretty good. It seems as if she's focused too much on her marriage with Sum 41's Dereck Whibley, because her lyrics are childish and some don't even make any sense. But overall, this CD is great. Parents - the language is extreme. Hell and damn are scattered throughout the CD, and bitch is used once. F*** is used once and s*** is used multiple times on the deluxe version. There are also references to drinking lemon jello and beer. Seeing as I do not have the deluxe CD, I am unable to review the DVD that comes with it. This CD is NOT for young kids. Listen to it before letting anyone under the age of 12 listen.

Avril is the Best Damn Thing my eyes have ever seen!

Avril’s long awaited 3rd album, from the beginning, has lived up to all of my deepest expectations. After “Under My Skin”, honestly, I wasn’t sure what exactly I expected. But Avril has surprised and shocked millions of fans by completely changing her style-for the better. And to date, I still can’t get it out of my head. One of my favourites is “Runaway”,a song about forgetting all your problems and getting away from it all. I also love, like most, “Girlfriend”, one of the best , and most up beat tracks of 2007. I have to admit, after hearing this song for the very first time, I was quite unsure about the rest of the album. But I was overjoyed to see that she maintained her bratty, boy-bashing attitude throughout, yet managed to keep it so unisexual that anybody could enjoy it. “One Of Those Girls”, and “I Don’t Have To Try” are very alike in style, yet are both instant hits, in my view. However, I personally feel that Avril’s attempts at ballads the third time round have, unfortunately, missed the mark in my books. While “Keep Holding On” grew on me, with it’s long, slow, and blissful notes, “Innocence” and “When You’re Gone” (the second single) seemed too alike and forgettable to be worth more than a couple of listens. But a quirkier and very unpredictable side to Avril’s style can be seen in “Hot”, a hard-hitting masterpiece, and “I Can Do Better”, one of the most immature yet frankly coolest tracks on the entire record. There is nothing left to say, except that Avril has surpassed most people’s expectations once again in creating a very near perfect album. Go and buy it NOW!!!

    Lavigne's Contagious Innocence

She shocked everyone when "Complicated" was released in far 2002. Her tank top/tie signature became a fashion statement for the teens, and her debut album, "Let Go," sold over 15 million copies. Not bad for a seventeen year old chick, fresh from dropping off of high school and whose Lexus cages don't include the words "skater" and "boy." Two years later, the songs got deeper, the mood got darker, but still the crowd appreciated. "Under My Skin," a collection of boy-bashing guitar riffs, piano-ridden pseudo-ballads, and optimistic tunes, sold over 8 million copies worldwide - a sign that this so-called anti-Britney girl-turning-woman was going to stay in the scene for a while. Modelling, acting, and especially marrying Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley officially turned the girl into a woman. She deliberately chose to "take my time" and "chill out" for a while. Not one person from her label interfered with the processing of her highly awaited upcoming album. Now she is ready. The waiting is over. Avril Lavigne - the best damn thing - is back. And rocking. The album kicks off with "Mickey"'s sister "Girlfriend," which sees Avril singing "In a second you'll be wrapped around my finger/Cause I can, cause I can do it better." Cocky - yes - but very effective. This song, Lavigne's first single off of Damn, can currently be found on top of every chart there is. It's even topped every other single Avril has released in terms of sales. Produced by Swedish god Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, "Girlfriend" is a mix of pop, rock and hip-hop beats, accompanied by cheerleading madness - the perfect way to open the album. But the stongest track comes only after three minutes and something. "I Can Do Better" contains almost every music genre: from pop to rock, to rap-like phrasing to punk edged screams. "I hate you now/So go away from me/You're gone/So long/I can do better!" sings Mrs. Whibley, who, even now that she is married, doesn't seem to have had enough with bashing boys. Travis Barker (blink-182, Box Car Racer, Transplants, +44, Expensive Taste) plays drums, and the results are obvious. Damn is all about fun. The songs are not necessarily about personal experiences in this record. Lavigne wants the world to know how she is feeling right now. And it shows. "It's the summer song," says Avril about "Runaway," one of the most optimistic songs she has ever written in her entire career. "I just want to scream and lose control/Throw my hands up and let it go/Forget about everything and run away/I just want to fall and lose myself/Laughing so hard it hurts like hell." Songs like "The Best Damn Thing" and "I Don't Have To Try" sound a bit repetitive, but don't make them less likeable. "Everything Back But You" and "Contagious" are both blink-182 would-have-been songs, packed with the trio's sounds and Lavigne's Tom DeLonge's unmistakable way of singing. "When You're Gone" and "Innocence" are the only slow slongs on the album, together with "Keep Holding On," which was written for the movie "Eragon." All of them are indisputably beautiful, both lyrically and musically. Lavigne's voice has never sounded better than in these songs, which also show her more mature side - the side that can feel love and happiness. "Hot" is as sexy as the title is. "You make me so hot/You make me want to drop/You're so ridiculous/I can barely stop/I can hardly breathe/You make me want to scream/You're so fabulous/You're so good to me," sings Avril (to husband Deryck) in this upbeat "love" song. "One Of Those Girls," produced by Whibley, is a pop rock warning to guys - the very first specific girls-bashing. "She's going to be the end of you/At least that's what they say" and "She's so good that you won't see it coming/She'll take you for a ride and you'll be left with nothing/You'll be broken/She'll be gone off to the next one," Avril carefully warns. Overall, the album is very catchy and though Lavigne can still do better than this album, The Best Damn Thing will have a major impact in the music industry, more than her previous records. If it's marriage that made Lavigne put out a record this solid, all the Duff's, Lohan's and Simpson's better get their special someone to propose as soon as possible. Now get your Limoncello and start dancing around to the tunes of Damn.

    What happened?!

Avril used to be pretty innocent of swearing and stuff. Her annoying songs on the radio were better than this. She's just a pop icon now, I think, and kids just like her because her music (not the words) are okay. Someone who is trying to appeal (and does as far as I've seen, working at a department store where her CDs are sold) to younger kids should NEVER curse in the lyrics, not even for a special edition.

    Great, but not for kids.

I thought this was a great CD. Avril is definetely back, but much more grown up. She is using more bad words. This CD is Parental Advisory and you can tell that from the title of the CD. The music is catchy and watch out if your child wants it and listen to samples of the songs to see if your child can handle the words because remember they don't bleep out bad words in CDs. I recommened this for kids 12 and up. Make sure they understand the curse words before they listen to this CD..

I like her music. You see my parents don't know I'm listening to her but she just has a few bad words in her music but other than that I think her music is great. I also think that her songs teach young girls to stand up for themselves and to help them see the true beauty they have. :)

    Girlfriend Has it Goin'

Avril Lavigne releases her 3rd finished album. The songs here are like her past two, and I am pleased to say this: Unlike Kelly Clarkson and Britney Spears, she maintains positive messages and danceable rhythms for tweens and teens. I thought that the lyrics were well laid out, and the melodies will be stuck in your childrens head for longer than a lot of songs you wish weren't. She's a mix of Chris Daughtry and Natasha Beddingfield. Great C.D..., I'd give about... 4 stars.

    the best D*** thing-avril lavinge

i think this c.d. was pretty good actually exept for the message that she is sending to little kids because when she says something like "HEY HEY U U I DONT LIKE UR GIRLFRIEND NO WAY NO WAY I THINK U NEED A NEW ONE" than thats like saying that it isa okay to be a bully when really it isnt.and that language that she uses is unbelieveable.i think that nobody 12 years of age and younger should listen to the unedited one.the edited one can be for kids 9+

    A Pointless CD

Right when it came out I bought it, but I was very dissapointed. The music is mindless and this pop star should be ashamed. Her music has a horrible message and if that's what children are going to be listening to, all parents should be concerned. If a child were to purchase this CD and think of Avril Lavigne as a role model they would be brought the wrong direction. She uses very innapropriate language and it's overall a horrible CD and i DO NOT reccomend it.

this is a pretty good cd. avril lavigne is a sprited young singer. we all know that see has an edge that sets her apart from Hannah Montana. she is a great singer for teens even if she doesn't sing about the nicest stuff sometimes. girlfriend is a great song (beside the f) but in all radio edits and things you most likely never even hered the real verison. i haven't but there are a few good songs on this album but some have some iffy parts for sure! 13+

Avril Comes Back With A Bamm!

Avril Lavigne is an extremely talented artist. Plus she writes most of her songs. The most explicit, and most popular, song on her third album is "Girlfriend". The song talks about a punk, who see's a boy and is immediatly attracted to him. Unfortonatley, the boy is taken. So she walks right up to the man and says "Hey hey/you you/I don't like your girlfriend. No way/no way/ I think you need a new one... I could be your girlfriend". Forward, but actually quite funny. Cursing is a bit extreme on this album. Like just in "Girlfriend" there is a d**m, motherf****r, and h**l is used several times. Not exactly super kid friendly. Plus, the CD title is only a preview of the explicity coming. Sexual content is not an issue, a breath of fresh air for parents. If you get the clean version, that motherf****r is replace "And h**l yeah, I'm the one and only princess!" Instead of "And h**l yeah, I'm the motherf*****r princess". Great CD, but I would suggest that no kid under 14 listens to this album. ESPECIALLY THE EXPLICIT VERSION.

I love this CD!!! There are so many good songs on it! I like the fast songs better than the slow ones, but they are good, too! What is the big deal if it say a couple of cuss words! kids use them every day, anyway! Plus, i think that bleeping out motherf**kin is kind of pointless, because you know what it is saying, because you hear the "mother" part! Also, another dumb "bleep-out" is when it says "gonna drink lemon jello" instead of beer, wine, or whatever, because that just doesn't even make sense! Well. thanks or listening, and i recommend the edited version of this to ages 10+, and the non edited version to ages 12+!

Amazing, a great album that actually has positive messges!

The Best Damn Thing is an amazing album, by the best damn singer/songwriter, Avril Lavigne. Unlike her last two CD's, this one has a more poppish feel, but, I still love it. Most of the songs are upbeat and rockish, but there are three or four ballads and mid-tempo songs. I would reccomend this to anyone 13+ because of the language. The edited version only says 'damn' and 'b****'. But the deluxe/explict version says, 'damn', 'b****', 'motherf***ing', 'motherf***er', 's**t' multiple times, and finally 'slut'. Explict but amazing! And the cussing isn't as bad as some rap s**t you might listen too!

Avril Lavigne is back with a new sound!

After three years of waiting, Avril is back, and with a completely new sound! Although this album is much different from the first two, her fans are more excited then ever, and she definitely is keeping her level. Especially with her new bratty, hit single "Girlfriend", which by-the-way she recorded in 8 different languages. Now that's impressive! And if you think she's gonna stop there, you're wrong, because she recently released her second single, "When You're Gone", which is a ballad, and far more emotional then "Girlfriend". As most of you probably know, Avril is married to Deryck Whibley (the lead singer of Sum 41), which inspired her to write awesome ballads like the second single, mentioned above, "When You're Gone", and "Innocence". But her husband didn't only inspire ballads, but a fun, and sexy song, called "Hot", which will also be the third single off of this platinum record. Another ballad on this record is "Keep Holding On", which was written for the movie "Eragon". Unlike her other two albums, this time, she named a song after the album title. "The Best Damn Thing" is definitely righteous to it's name, especially with that cool cheerleader vibe to it. Like "Girlfriend" there are a few other bratty songs on the album, which include "Everything Back But You" and "I Can Do Better". Just like on her last record, "Under My Skin", Avril didn't fail to choose the best-of-the-best to work with her on this album, like Dr. Luke, Butch Walker, and even Travis Barker, the drummer from Blink 182. Avril definitely has changed a lot, I cannot say that she has become more mature, but she has changed. She lost a lot of fans with this album, but definitely gained a lot, as well. If you like Pop/Rock, and like dancing around, and goofing off to music, this is the album for you!

Good for those who know how to appreciate it

In this new and third album, Avril Lavigne leaves her maturity aside and shows us her funnier, brattier side. Songs like the super successful Girlfriend or the anger driven I Can Do Better (which she reportedly wrote while drunk) are quite an impressive couple of songs to hear after her most mature record to date, Under My Skin. Going for a more relaxed image, Avril has achieved awesome love songs like Contagious and Hot which are obviously dedicated to her hubby (Deryck Whibley from Sum 41) without being cheesy. Ballads like Keep Holding On and Innocent show off her vocal skills, which are really good. Although lyrics of most songs are nothing that will earn her a writing skills award, the record for sure shows a contrast between both married life and a 22-year-old-who-is-on-top-of-the-world’s life.

    The worst thing ever....

Avril Lavigne's music was never good to begin with, but this one is just......awful.The same thing as the last few albums, corny whiney wannabe punk screechy music about how mad she is...Her music is a bit of a bad influence, and she's really fake. She should just stick with pop becuase she'll never be punk.
