Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that America's Got Talent's Bianca Ryan is a 12-year-old powerhouse of a vocalist. The songs are all family-friendly, the singing is spectacular, and the spunk and talent of the star is irresistible.
Families can talk about what it might be like for a kid who has the voice of someone older. What challenges might arise? How do you think Bianca will sound when she actually is a grown-up? Families can also talk about how Bianca fuses different musical genres together: Where do you hear the country influence? The pop? The R&B?
Common Sense Review

Bianca Ryan, winner of NBC's hit series America's Got Talent is only 12, but she has the pipes, vocal range, and style of a seasoned vocalist twice her age. Her powerful delivery will remind fans of young Tanya Tucker or LeAnn Rimes mixed with a little pop princess, and her endearing cutie-pie looks complete the appealing package.
Unfortunately, the producers of Ryan's debut album have saddled her with a few too many old chestnuts, boasting musical arrangements that sound like toothpaste commercials. We could all have lived many long and happy years without another interpretation of "The Rose," for example -- even if it's beautifully sung. "You Light Up My Life" is another song that never needed revival, especially by producers lacking any sense of excitement or originality.
The most successful tune ends up being the original, sweet "Why Couldn't It Be Christmas Every Day," in which Ryan is allowed to sound like exactly what she is -- a very talented, extremely confident kid. It'll be interesting to see how this young woman's career develops, and whether or not future efforts will include material that boasts a bigger dose of imagination and freshness.
Fans may also enjoy music by LeAnn Rimes, Hilary Duff, and the very early Jackson Five.
