What Parents Need to Know

About The Black Parade

Parents need to know that My Chemical Romance continues to produce lyrics that are pretentious and death-obsessed, but also at times, very well written. "F--k" and "s--t" appear just frequently enough to warrant a "Parental Advisory" sticker. There are also several references to drinking and drugs.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about depression and death-obsession, and the value of expressing thoughts and fears artistically rather than self-destructively. "Cancer" might have poignant resonance for anyone who has personal experience with the disease.

    His Pants Fell Off :D!

I've heard a LOT more swearing than this coming from elementary schoolers mouths. Let me say that the cussing shouldn't matter. All right, now to the good stuff. It's dark, yes, but what isn't? Even shows like Barney have their dark sides - you just gotta look. Gerard Way is just a bit darker than the world. He's had some issues, but it's made him into an amazingly awesome and random person. I love MCR and I always will. I started listening when I was 13, but i'll give it a 15 *sweatdrops*. After all that defending it, right? I have my reasons. But hey, anyone who's so drunk their pants fall off onstage should have people listening to what they have to say.

PARENTS RIGHT HERE (P.S. i love MCR and i won the school singing competiton singing dead).

Okay why I said iffy for 12 I listned to it at 12 but it should be for 16 years of age. Anyways this is a good CD and band who talks about stuff that happens in the world. EX song Cancer talks about copping with Cancer. But the singing is good lots of swears in a couple songs (2 or 3)

Not nearly as good as the previous release, but still decent. Great for teens who need to cope with serious issues.

This album doesn't sound as good as the previous album, "Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge", which sounded like a cross between the punk band Green Day and the goth band Abney Park. This one sounds like a cross between MCR's older stuff and [insert name of annoying soft rock artist here]. It's not bad, but not that good, either. The lyrics, as you would expect from this band, are very death-obsessed and occasionally violent. This album, however, has much more swearing than you would expect, with several uses of the f-word and s-word each. A lot of teens can probably relate to the lyrics, especially if they have dealt with serious issues such as cancer, close friends dying, or suicidal ideation. Around the time this came out (I was 14), my mom's dad and my mom's stepdad both died of cancer, which triggered some suicidal thought in me. This album deals with death, cancer, and suicide, and it helped me feel a lot better. My parents were not very accepting of the album at first due to its use of profanity, but once they saw how much it helped me cope, they let up.
