Why We Rated This on for Ages 7 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

One song is about being "too cool" sung by a popular, self-proclaimed "mean" charcter, but the overall theme is about finding yourself, being who you are, and following your dreams: "You only get one life to work it/so who cares if it's not perfect" and "We're finding our voice/following our dreams."

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

Obvious tie-in to the Disney movie Camp Rock and the stars the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Camp Rock Soundtrack

Parents need to know that this is the soundtrack to another Disney Channel original movie musical sensation aimed at tweens -- much like High School Musical -- and it features the uber-popular Disney sweeties the Jonas Brothers. In true Disney fashion, the songs are full of messages about being yourself and following your dreams. The soundtrack doesn't release until June 17, and the movie will air on Disney (June 20), on ABC (June 21), on ABC Family (June 22), and then on Disney.com (June 23).

From High School Musical to Hannah Montana, and now Camp Rock, Disney has practically cornered the market for tween entertainment. What makes all of these "products" so successful? Does the fact that something comes with the Disney label make it more likely to be a hit?
