common sense media says

A lively mix of mostly family-friendly tunes.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this CD is much tamer than the movie (which is rated PG-13) -- parents will have to moderate kids who want the CD but who are still a bit young for all the flesh and innuendo that's in the movie....

Positive messages: Nas claims to "turn girls to masochists" in "Nas' Angels the Flyest"--not such a good thing. And there's that perky rendition of "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting." But except for a bit of occasional give-it-all-up-for-you sappiness here and there, th
Violence: "Fire in the disco, fire in the Taco Bellfire in the Gates of Hell" might be just the teensiest bit scary for younger kids. Same with "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting."
Sex: "Danger! High voltage when we touch, when we kiss" is about as sexual as it gets (in "Danger! High Voltage" by Electric Six). Lots of innuendo ("Any Way You Want It;" "Last Chance for Love") and dating angst, but no explicit sex.
Language: No offensive language.
Consumerism: Want a little music with your cell phone? The first thing that pops out of this package is an insert/ad/booklet for Cingular Wireless.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: We've got a belly full of beer, a fifth of Jack, and a drunk dad in "Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting)."

Families can talk about what it takes for a soundtrack to stand out on its own, even if you havn't seen the movie.

What's the story?

What's the story?
The great thing about movie soundtrack compilations is variety, and CHARLIE'S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE SOUNDTRACK gives us a lively mix of mostly familiar tunes from different rock & roll eras. There's something here for everyone. Contemporary artists and songs blend well with classic rock offerings. "Feel Good Time" (performed by Pink featuring William Orbit) samples Spirit's "Fresh Garbage." "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" is given a fresh interpretation by Nickelback featuring Kid Rock -- its vanilla punk perkiness defuses any hint of real violence. The musical high point is "Nas' Angels…the Flyest" performed by Nas featuring Pharrell. The song intertwines a haunting, rhythmic Middle-Eastern-sounding chorus with imaginative, well-delivered rap verses.

Is it any good?

The track list for this amazing compilation of talents also includes songs by David Bowie (a new recording of "Rebel Rebel"), Electric Six, Bon Jovi, Journey, the Beach Boys, Loverboy, Edwyn Collins, Natalie Cole, MC Hammer, and disco chestnuts "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" by Andy Gibb, and "Last Dance" by Donna Summer. Over all, occasional mild sex or violence references in the lyrics are diluted by the iconic familiarity of most of these songs. As a whole, this CD is satisfying and fun.
