A Child's Celebration of Broadway
What’s the Story?
The compilation on A CHILD'S CELEBRATION OF BROADWAY represents a number of famous Broadway shows with songs performed by the original casts. Such exposure to America's great heritage of musical theater is wonderful for your children's musical lives. (It may even form the foundation of further musical participation and study.) Kids will especially enjoy "I've Gotta Crow" from Peter Pan and the familiar "Lonely Goatherd" from The Sound of Music. Liner notes list the shows, performers, and composers; unfortunately, they do not offer any story synopsis about the shows. Still, you can use these notes, and this entire recording, as an introduction to more musical theater for your children.
Is It Any Good?
Although not written specifically for kids, these songs (and the morals they present) are positive and uplifting, containing nothing questionable for young ears. The tunes are easy to learn and the words not too complicated for most young listeners. Singing along with these show-stoppers is not necessarily educational, but it's a great chance for your kids to work out their vocal muscles on songs other than simple children's tunes.
