Disneymania
What’s the Story?
Take some of Disney's movie soundtrack and theme park hits, mix liberally with today's popular artists and some slick production, and what do we get? A series of kid-friendly CDs with music that's very familiar, but somewhat new at the same time.
Is It Any Good?
The most successful tunes are the ones that go boldly against expectation: the RapMania! Mix version of "It's a Small World After All" by fan_3, for example. Less exciting are the straight-ahead covers. Take "A Whole New World." It starts out prettily enough with a strong Nick Lachey vocal -- until Jessica Simpson's weak, nasal warble floats in -- time to skip to the next track! The other ballads are better performed, but aren't different enough from the original versions to be all that interesting. A thing to note: The songs are ones we've already heard a million times and after a few of the less-than-stellar tunes, you may be asking yourself if we really needed another version?
