Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that there's nothing at all to worry about with this single from the College Road Trip soundtrack.
Families can talk about remaking songs. Why do big hits get remade? Is it better to leave a successful song alone or do new versions revive it? Do you like Raven-Symone's adaptation?
Common Sense Review

"DOUBLE DUTCH BUS" originally came out back in the early '80s and it's nice to know that Raven-Symone has kept its disco and funk sounds in her updated version from the College Road Trip soundtrack. The song isn't really about anything -- just a fun bus ride filled with dancing.
The simple, repetitive beat of funk gets people on the dance floor, and in this case, on the bus. A routine bus ride turns into a dance party for passengers, including Raven-Symone. She has the vocal maturity to bring in the soulful sounds of yesterday and the young spirit to make the track current. The lyrics are quite silly ("There's a Double Dutch Bus coming down the street/movin' kinda fast, so kinda shuffle your feet./Get on the bus, and pay your fare/Tell the driver that you're going to a Double Dutch affair"), but the only point of the song is to have a good time -- which it does very well.
Fans of this funky sound might also enjoy Joss Stone or Aretha Franklin.
