Parents need to know that this CD will please both kid and adult ears with its agreeably funky beats and silly (and sometimes soulful) lyrics. The title song's simple admonition to "dream big" infuses the entire album. Each song is a celebration of imagination and childlike wonder, whether talking about elephants in Borneo or doodle bugs in the garden.
Families can talk about the importance of dreams and goals. Does your child want to fly to the moon or cure cancer? Did you have similar fantasies when you were small? Also, parents can use the message of the song "Turn off the TV!" to remind kids that there's a "three-dimensional world" out there to explore.

Everyone loves Roger Day -- parents, kids, critics, award committees, and even other musicians. And, there's good reason for that. The 13 tracks on DREAM BIG! (Day's third album) are upbeat, catchy, and musically diverse. Day, a former camp counselor and father of three, clearly loves his craft and is a bit of a musical chameleon, adapting his vocals to different genres. He hams it up on "Turn Off the TV," a sort of goofy "rap," and croons the tune "I Love You (More than My Shoe)," which is more of a ragtime tune -- Scott Joplin style. "Roly Poly" sounds like a 1950s rock ditty, complete with backup music by the Crickets (Buddy Holly's band; Day even sounds a bit like Holly on this song). Indeed, he finds clever ways to sneak in cultural references -- from the Dalai Llama to Muhammad Ali to Bo Diddley to Philo Farnsworth (the inventor of the TV).
Fans of this CD might also enjoy Music Makes Me Happy or Grace's Bell.
