What’s the Story?
Instead of going for the obvious (simplistic arrangements of sappy ditties presented with mind-numbing repetition), Mae Robertson has chosen for her DREAM album to cover songs by a roster of classic-rock and alt-country artists that includes James Taylor, Paul Simon, Dar Williams, Tom Waits, and Bob Dylan -- tastefully arranged with spare and lovely (mostly acoustic) accompaniment and sung with her signature crystal-clear warmth. Though all of the instrumental tracks are stellar, Charlotte Roberts' cello stands out, as does Jon Carroll on piano.
Is It Any Good?
On her Dream CD, Robertson draws upon soft-rock classics and beloved poetry for this lovely collection of sweet, dreamy songs that are likely to calm fussy babies' nerves while also enchanting their parents -- a rarer-than-you'd-think accomplishment on lullaby albums.
