Why We Rated This not for kids

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

The "N" word is used a lot; very sexist assumptions ("I can turn a 'ho into a housewife any day"); "I f--ked her and didn't have a rubber on me...the girl had HIV" and "You wouldn't do what you do unless you're tipsy/you wouldn't be the freak you are."
  • Violence:

There's some violence, and it's gotta be the other guy's fault: "Why you got to f--k up my night?/Now we got to fight and I'm gonna knock out your lights," like there's no choice in the matter.
  • Sex:

Pretty explicit in a very sexist way: "You didn't expect me to turn you around/spread it out and put it down...open up the back door and put your legs up/put you right on my hood."
  • Language:

    Lots of explicit language.
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

A lot of references to drinking; kilos, ecstasy, and other drugs are also mentioned.

What Parents Need to Know

About Epiphany

Parents need to know that there's explicit content, racist language, and a "let me get you drunk so we can get it on" ethos front and center on this CD. On "I Got It" T-Pain greets the news that his lover has HIV with compassion, then on "Suicide" goes on to blame her for the infection and responds to the news by "drinking for days."

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the song "Tipsy," in which T-Pain says he doesn't want to get his date drunk, exactly, but "you wouldn't do what you do unless you're tipsy…you wouldn't be the freak that you are…" Do you ever feel pressured to drink or do drugs at parties? Is there a way to say no without feeling dorky?

    It's Decent.

It was ok. I love T-Pain, and I deffinatly do not think this was his best work. But I still think it was appropriate for someone my age to listen to. I'd say anyone 13 or over. I don't think it was nearly as bad as everyone is saying it is.
