Parents need to know

Parents need to know that some of the lyrics on this album are sexually suggestive; on one occasion, they do get to the point of being slightly raunchy. But, most of the 15 songs celebrate love, friendship, relationships, passions, diversity, and expressing yourself through music and dancing. Only two of the 15 tracks are new.

Families can talk about the Spice Girls' reunion. Why do you think the band got back together to tour and put out a new album? Do you think their "comeback" is worth the hype? Do you think the hype makes more people interested in the music -- or does it seem like overkill? Families can also discuss the messages conveyed in their songs. What are the songs about? Are the messages positive or negative?

Message

Social Behavior:

Several of the songs include heartfelt lyrics about love and friendship; "Mama" talks about treasuring your relationship with your mother; "Spice Up Your Life" celebrates diversity in our world; and some of the songs encourage listeners to express themselves through music and dancing.

Consumerism:

Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco:

Violence

Sex

Several references to making love/having sex (though the word "sex" is never actually used). Lyrics in a couple of songs carry some strong sexual innuendo ("Wanna make love to ya baby," "Come on let me take/you to my fantasy room/you gonna like it there/the things that I do"). On one occasion, in "Wannabe," the lyrics do get slightly raunchy ("We got 'em in the place who likes it in your face").

What's the story?

Reviewed by Larisa Wiseman

The Spice Girls' GREATEST HITS album -- their first release in seven years -- should please fans of the newly reunited female pop group, compiling 13 of their most popular tunes and two new ones ("Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)" and "Voodoo"). The album combines their ballads featuring great harmonies and heartfelt lyrics ("Say You'll Be There," "2 Become 1," "Mama") to their irresistible dance tunes that blend disco with an edgy pop sound ("Wannabe," "Spice Up Your World," "Who Do You Think You Are").

Is it any good?

This collection is a reminder of how good the Girls "really really" were at the height of their career -- and their slightly more mature sound on this CD just amplifies their talent. Even the two new tracks, though not exactly standouts, fit in well with the rest; "Headlines," a love song, certainly won't disappoint fans who particularly enjoy the group's ballads.

You already know all the lyrics :)

Sexual Content: 2 Become 1 is exactly as bad as it sounds. SLightly raunchy lyrics in Wannabe. The Headlines video is very sexually suggestive. [Not included on album] Violence: Not an issue. Language: Squeaky clean. Social Behaviour: Great stuff here. Diversity is celebrated. Commercialism: Not an issue. Drugs/Alcohol/Tobacco: Not an issue. Spice Girls: Greatest Hits On for 13+ A bit of sexual innuedo, nothing to worry about. 13+ because they grew up with Spice Girls. Great CD! LOOOOOOOVE IT! :D

Girl Power

The Spice Girls are a great CD for everyone. Since the message about girl power is something every girl needs to hear.Instead about the importance of becoming ''the b***h everyone hates.''
