Common Sense Note

Parents need to know that this special edition soundtrack is made up of 15 songs from Disney's TV show, Hannah Montana, including the theme song "The Best of Both Worlds." The 2-disc set features all the same safe, girl-power pop favorites from the first soundtrack release in 2006 ("If We Were a Movie" and "I Got Nerve"), but also has a new bonus track "Nobody's Perfect." It also comes with a DVD that includes 30 minutes of "Backstage Secrets" and a live concert performance of "Nobody's Perfect," signed snapshots of Cyrus, and a certificate for a free "This is the Life" ringtone.

Families can talk about what it would be like to have a mysterious secret identity as a rock star. Would it be worth it? What are the pros and cons of living a secret yet glamorous life like that? How would your friends react? Families can also discuss how it's different to listen to a song rather than to watch its video. How does your imagination allow you to see different things?

Common Sense Review

Reviewed By: Jennifer Axman

The beloved Hannah Montana played by Miley Cyrus is an ordinary, everyday girl who happens to have a secret identity as a rock star. All of the clean songs on this CD are full of girl power messages ("I know where I stand/I know who I am...Gonna get what I deserve, I got nerve" and "Who said, who said I won't be President/I say, I say you ain't seen nothin' yet"), talent, and charm. There's a bonus concert performance of the track, "Nobody's Perfect" -- a song that continues the theme of high self esteem and loving who you really are ("Nobody's perfect/ya live and ya learn it/And if I mess it up sometimes/hey nobody's perfect").

The theme of being a normal girl with normal girl problems (trying to fit in, living your dream, not having a care in the world, and having fun with friends) -- even though Hannah Montana has a superstar secret identity -- runs throughout the album. For example, "The Other Side of Me" ("If you could see the other side of me/I'm just like everybody else/can't you tell") and "Just Like You" ("So what you see is only half the story/there's another side of me") are just two of the upbeat pop tracks that share Miley's feelings about staying strong and the challenge of balancing her real self with her stage one.

The touching duet with Miley's famous father, Billy Ray Cyrus, "I Learned from You" ("I learned from you that I do not crumble/I learned from you that strength is something you choose...There is no question that's a lesson I learned from you.") is one of the album's best tracks. In addition to the 9 songs sung by Miley Cyrus, there are also four tracks by guest artists: "Pop Princess" (The Click Five), "She's No You" (Jesse McCartney), "Find Yourself in You" (Everlife), and "Shining Star" (B5).

Fans of this album may also enjoy The Cheetah Girls and The Slumber Party Girls.
