Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that this CD/DVD combo is one of those rare musical gems that doesn't talk down to kids (and will be immensely appealing to their parents) while never pushing the envelope with scary or inappropriate content.
Families can talk about the wonderful visual images evoked by these songs. Have you ever seen a "Pinecone Lovely" or a "Bluebird Tree?" What do you think they would look like? How about drawing your own versions before looking at the DVD that comes along with this CD?
Common Sense Review

Gustafer Yellowgold, a creature from the sun created by illustrator/singer/songwriter Morgan Taylor, apparently had access to some Beatles records during his intergalactic travels, and learned his musical lessons very well. Think Yellow Submarine meets Pee-wee's Playhouse. Whatever label you choose, prepare to be absolutely charmed by Mr. Yellowgold's whimsical, intelligent, and imaginative take on earthling life. Gustafer and his pals -- Pterydactyl Forrest Applecrumbi, Slim the Eel, and Asparagus the Dragon -- go to great musical lengths to prove that children's music doesn't have to cut corners or talk down to kids. The scariest HAVE YOU NEVER BEEN YELLOW? gets is some pondering over a dead bird on "Birds" -- and the simple yet expressive illustrations on the accompanying DVD add just the right touch of intelligent whimsy.
