"Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)" CD single
Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that the lyrics are fine for any age -- it talks about the joy of finding a special love and pledging your commitment to that person. The video for the song, however, is sexually suggestive, with the Spice Girls wearing revealing outfits and moving and posing in very sensual ways. There's even the slightest suggestion of sexual initiation between two of the Girls (one caresses the other).
Families can talk about the message in the song's lyrics versus the message of the video. What do you think of the message the song conveys? Is it positive? Do you think the video fits with the song's lyrics and message? Why or why not? Do you think female artists need to show skin to sell their music?
Common Sense Review

The new Spice Girls single "Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)" should please fans of the newly reunited -- and certainly headline-making -- female pop group. The song, about finding a special love and pledging your devotion to that person, showcases a more mature Spice Girls sound, with pleasant harmonies and stirring lyrics. It's a shame the video takes away from the message of the song; the Girls spend the entire length of the video posing and writhing in sexy lingerie and revealing evening gowns, on top of fur-covered sofas (which is not surprising, actually, since the new CD containing this single is carried by Victoria's Secret stores). Granted, the Girls have every right to be proud of the fact that they're still sexy and appealing, but it would have been nice if there were a connection between the heartwarming, meaningful lyrics of the song and the action in the video.
Fans of this song might enjoy Gwen Stefani and the Backstreet Boys.
