Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 13–14

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Lots of dramatic talk about relationships, loss, love. One song is about cheating, but realizing it's a mistake: "I was missing you…/I let him stay…/he almost felt the same." Other songs talk about being tired of trying to fit in; another makes fun of celebrity girls ("I get what I want/my name is my credit card"). One line says "Revenge is sweeter than you ever were" -- although there's no details about getting actual revenge.
  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

Lots of sexual innuendo; nothing graphic, but obvious stuff: "I feel so untouched and I want you so much that I can't resist you," "I can taste it in our first kiss../..searching for you in my sheets," "I can't stay away/get up and go down/then we go one more round," "I was numb/for you I come/night and day/I can't stay away," "I wanna kiss a girl/I wanna kiss a boy," and "Oh baby you were my first time."
  • Language:

A few words here and there, but not sure it's enough to garner "Explicit" rating: "F--k" once, "hell" a few times, "bitch" once, "damn."
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

One metaphor relating a guy to drugs: "I inhale now I'm addicted/to this place/to you babe."

What Parents Need to Know

About Hook Me Up

Parents need to know that although this Aussie sister act is the opening band for the Jonas Brothers' tour, they aren't quite the squeaky-clean image that is, so far, JoBros. They're edgy and sexy, and the few curse words here and there and obvious sexual innuendo garnered an "Explicit" rating for this album. It's relatable to teens with talk about loss, love, and regret.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the fact that The Veronicas are on tour with the ever-popular, also familial band, the Jonas Brothers. Do you think this will automatically launch their career in the U.S.? What do you think about the fact that their album has a "Parental Advisory," yet they're the opening act for the Disney, super-clean trio of the Jonas Brothers?

    Mostly for teens.

This song is kind of sexual but most tweens these days know about this stuff because they have older siblings. It's really catchy.

I rate this title iffy for age 15 and give it 2.0
    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate sexual content
    • Inappropriate language
    • Negative role models

Ok for older kids but NOT for tweens!

Sexual Content is unnecessary! They have some very catchy songs but too much innuendo.

    Great Songs!

I don't know why it's rated 13+, it's not THAT bad except for a few words here and there. I like this album a lot.
