Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 15–17

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

It's all OK except for the "N" word, which shows up far too often for a lot of comfort levels.
  • Violence:

    No violence.
  • Sex:

Only one song is very explicit; the rest is pleasant pop/R&B.
  • Language:

One song, "Pretty Girl Bulls**t," goes all out to earn this CD its parental advisory sticker.
  • Consumerism:

An insert promotes Sean John clothing, available at Bloomingdales. Several brand names are mentioned on one song.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Nothing obvious.

What Parents Need to Know

About Hurt No More

Parents need to know that the songs on this album obsessively explore the theme of infidelity, from just about every angle. Except for "Pretty Girl Bulls**t," the lyrics are mostly mild.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the CD's focus on cheating. In many of the lyrics, Winans begs his cheating girlfriend to stay. Ask your kids what they think about this. Do they believe that an unfaithful partner deserves another chance? Why or why not?
