What’s the Story?
On Enrique's INSOMNIAC album, it seems he wants to make sure you know -- with the help of his liquid-eyed sincerity and a lot of medium-tempo dance club backbeat -- that it is OK if you want to spend the night. Really! Despite one surprisingly successful Li'l Wayne cameo (on "Push"), the whole project sounds as smooth and sexy as satin sheets on a king-size bed. Although the innuendo never gets really explicit, there's no doubting Enrique's intentions on songs like "On Top of You" and "Push" ("I know that your man's nowhere in sight/and your eyes don't tell a lie/I know you wanna come with me tonight"), expressing a rather selfish variety of lust without concern for consequences.
Is It Any Good?
Turn the romance-o-meter up to eleven for this sweet and pleasant collection of love and/or seduction songs from Latin superstar Enrique Iglesias. The synthesized instrumental tracks, sparse and hypnotic, leave plenty of room for Enrique's expressive vocals, honey-soaked with an edge of melancholy that never quite turns whiney. Whatever the artist's intentions, Enrique Iglesias has come up with a collection of sexy and satisfying songs -- providing perfect background music for flirting.
