JACKPOT, Chingy's debut effort, is one of the most mind-numbingly boring CDs released in 2003. The performances are so-so, the writing ranges from lackluster to just plain bad, and the artist's pretty face isn't quite enough to compensate.
"Holidae In," featuring Snoop Dog and Ludacris, isn't quite enough to elevate JACKPOT to the level of sort-of-interesting. The edited CD is done clumsily, leaving no doubt as to what words have been left out. Skits with titles like "F*ck Dat N*gga," apparently intended to provide comic relief, fall flat. A video DVD, included in the "Enhanced" package, is pointlessly sexist throughout.
Chingy has the good looks of a movie-star heartthrob, perhaps the only reason he ever got to make a CD at all. Who knows? Maybe a lucrative modeling career is in his future, if he can learn to keep his mouth shut.
Is it any good?
