Parents need to know that the lyrics of this title track from the Kung Fu Panda Soundtrack, are almost completely different from Carl Douglas' original version of the same name. There's less emphasis on the actual fighting, and more on finding the winner within and being a "diamond in the rough."
Gnarls Barkley frontman Cee-Lo and funnyman rocker/actor Jack Black have teamed up with producers Underdogs (Chris Brown, Beyonce) to give us a neo-funk/electronica remake of Carl Douglas' popular disco hit for the upcoming Dreamworks animated film Kung Fu Panda, due out in theaters June 6. The song is the first single released from the movie's soundtrack.
KUNG FU FIGHTING is fun and filled with more kid-friendly lyrics than the original that talked about a "funky China man from funky China town" and fighting. This version, with Cee-Lo at the lead and Jack Black in the background, covers finding the winner within you, the "diamond in the rough." It's a good theme song for the underdog -- or underpanda -- that Kung Fu Panda is all about. Kids will be singing it well after the movie is over, and parents probably will, too.
Families can talk about the fact that so many movie stars and celebrities lend their talents and voices to animated films made today. Why do you think this is? Does it make you want to see a movie more when you know that stars are going to "be" the characters in it?
