Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that this single from the upcoming Sex and the City movie soundtrack is a laundry list of brand names -- and Fergie singing about how much she likes to shop.
Families can talk about the emphasis of image in Sex and the City. The TV series created fashion trends -- do you think the movie will as well? Why do you think shopping makes people feel better? What else can you do besides spend money that will put a smile on your face?

Doesn't everyone feel better after some power retail therapy? The girls of Sex and the City sure do (oh, how Carrie Bradshaw loves her Manolo Blahnik shoes). Apparently, so does Fergie, as she rattles off haute couture brand names in her new dance single off the upcoming soundtrack to the feature-length SATS film.
The beat will definitely get you bumping and grinding, but unfortunately the vocals -- with the over use of the vocoder -- is too synthesized, produced, and generic. And, well, the emphasis on shopping gets a bit old. Yes, Fergie has her own handbag line, but how many handbag references can someone listen to in one song? She did manage to sneak in snippets of the TV show's theme song for those who are nostalgic for the foursome of friends who love fashion and men.
Fans may also like Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake.

Social BehaviorYes, Fergie doesn't need a man to make her complete, but she does need a Gucci bag -- and a lot more accessories to feel good ("All I know is that I'm happy when I walk out the store"). |
