Why We Rated This not for kids

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

A lot of "playa" talk and "got the money" talk; lots of glamorization of drugs and dealing: "Any drug is a go."
  • Violence:

Very violent content that discusses robbery with gun shot sounds saying "Stick em' up" over and over; having a "piece" under the seat; "semi-auto pistol" (in my pocket); and practically encourages suicide in "Click Bang Bang" ("Click bang bang…to your ----brain/...what they need to do is kill themselves.../suicide is good").
  • Sex:

Lots of booty talk and sexual innuendo. Very obscene track "I'd Rather" talks about "head" and "p---y."
  • Language:

Very explicit and strong language repeated several times: "f--k," the "N" word, "s--t," "bitch," and "damn."
  • Consumerism:

Mentions MySpace a few times, Cadillac, Range Rover.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Excessive talk about drugs and being high. The track titled "Weed, Blow, Pills" says "It's what we fightin' for/what we live for." Talks about waking up (still "high") in bed with a girl with "white under her nose" and "one pocket full of pills/a little bag of that cola/the other one full of weed/and a semi-auto pistol."

What Parents Need to Know

About Last 2 Walk

Parents need to know that Three 6 Mafia is the group which won the Academy Award in 2006 for their song "It's Hard Out Here for Pimp" in the movie Hustle & Flow. They're known for their sometimes "horrorcore" rap, have a cult-like following, and are questioned by some to imply satanic or anti-Christian principles with their name (the group claims that the name is only reference to the number of members). There's lots of strong language ("f--k," the "N" word, "s--t"), sexual content, and talk about doing drugs and selling drugs ("Weed, Blow, Pills") on this album. The song "Click Bang Bang" talks about suicide in a disturbing way declaring, "suicide is good." There's an edited version of the album available.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about how hip-hop is often linked with questionable content and how it perpetuates the negative perception of rappers. Do you think hip-hop artists should change what they often sing about, or is it OK because it's relevant to some and it's free speech? Where should we draw the line, or should we? Do you think the artists or the record companies are at fault for sustaining this negative image?
