Common Sense Note

Parents need to know that the only dangerous thing about this CD is that these infectious songs might get stuck in your head at inopportune moments when your kids are nowhere in sight. Despite the strong possibility that you'll find yourself humming "Friendship Is a Dance" to the bank teller, or fantasize about a "Make Some Noise" sing-along at your next corporate board meeting, this delightful CD is worth the risk.

Families can talk about "Man Oh Man Oh Manners" and "Pass the Fun." Who cares about manners anyway? Do you agree that "if you're supposed to use a napkin, then why d'ya have a sleeve" or are you more in the "friends with yummy manners make parties extra sweet" camp? Are there some times when good manners are more important than others?

Common Sense Review

Reviewed By: Kathi Kamen Goldmark

LET'S DANCE, the soundtrack recorded to accompany the latest Strawberry Shortcake DVD releases (Let's Dance and The Berry Blossom Festival) delivers 16 imaginative, gentle, and infectious original songs with a slightly irreverent and absurdist edge. Though occasionally indulging in sappy sentiment ("A True Friend" and "Sailing Toward Tomorrow" might be a couple of tracks to skip at your preschool dance party), the Strawberry Shortcake gang prefers its good-time message music on the rocks with a twist. "Stomp those grapes like they do in France/that's the way we're gonna start this dance" and "Let's dance cause we came through it/let's dance cause we know how" are lyrics with more persuasive oomph than you'll find anywhere in the older Cheetah Girls' oeuvre, and it's a delight to hear any children's song that questions the value of manners.

Fans looking for slightly more sophisticated children's music might want to check out Class of 3000 and They Might Be Giants' Here Come the ABC's.
