  • Is it any good?

    3.0
  • Common Sense says

Melodic music but full of explicit, sexist stuff.

Why We Rated This not for kids

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Women are described and treated as men's property, and described as "bitch," "ho," and "shawty." Racist and sexist language is used constantly.
  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

Explicit references to certain body parts and activities ("she's on my dick" and "hard as a rock when she touched me," for example).
  • Language:

Very explicit; "s--t," "f--k," and the "N" word are used freely.
  • Consumerism:

Product placement is obvious: car, clothing, and liquor brands make some of the lyrics sound like commercials.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Drinking and smoking weed are mentioned several times.

What Parents Need to Know

About Love Me All Summer, Hate Me All Winter

Parents need to know that The Dream's lyrics include four-letter words and sexual content, along with some sexist expressions of infatuation ("I Luv Your Girl" apologizes to a friend for stealing his girlfriend as though she were a piece of property with no say in the matter). The songs, sung in soulful falsetto over lush R&B tracks, sound a lot sweeter than they actually are.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the difference between appreciating someone's attractiveness and thinking of the person you like as your personal property. The Dream delivers very explicit content in a gorgeous, smooth vocal style. Do four-letter words come across differently when they are sweetly and softly sung -- or said?
