Parents need to know that this is album of solid soul from Joss Stone will inspire aspiring singers.
OK, so now she's, um, 17. And on MIND BODY & SOUL Joss Stone pulls out all the stops once again, this time on an impressive collection of original material.
As on her last album, Joss Stone's incredible voice overshadows everything else. There are some wonderfully girl-empowering "I can do it" lyrics; there are some drippy lovelorn lyrics; there are lyrics that mean everything and lyrics that mean nothing. None of it matters, as long as this amazing girl keeps singing as though her life -- and ours -- depended on it.
"Security," a poignant ballad about love and loss in the wake of tragedy, features gospel-tinged organ and angel choir backup and is powerful but not overpowering. It's just one of the many exquisitely produced songs on MIND BODY & SOUL that feel like classics the first time you hear them. Joss Stone has an amazing voice, a lovely face, an incredible feel for soul music, and collaborators who know how to enhance all of the above without getting in the way.
Families can talk about the elements of good soul music.
