Common Sense Note
Parents need to know this short and sweet 4-song collection (one is duplicated in Spanish) from a reinvented boy band is innocent (I-like-you-I-hope-you-like-me themes) and perfectly fine for tweens. The CD is only available at Target, but you can find the singles online. The full-length album from Menudo will be out this spring.
Families can talk about the branding of Menudo. Why are they launching a new group with the same name that was popular 20 years ago? What was the group like then? How is it different now?
Common Sense Review
Reviewed By: Maria Dinoia
Menudo had similar appeal of the boy bands that dominated the '90s, and this newer, made-by-MTV version (Making Menudo) does a pretty good job delivering their five-part harmonies that make these boy bands oh so popular. The first single "More than Words" has all the qualities of a radio-friendly single that will have tween girls turning up the volume -- and downloading photos of Jose (15), Chris (15), Emmanuel (16), Monti (18), and Carlos (18). (The Spanish version is also included on this EP.)
Note: This little preview should generate excitement for the full album due out in spring -- check back soon for a full review. In the meantime, you might also like other boy bands such as Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, 'NSYNC, and 98 Degrees.
