What parents need to know

Parents need to know that there's nothing objectionable about this CD. The songs from the show of the same name are utterly charming and whimsical, and nearly all of them tell a cute, funny story. They also carry a positive message about finding joy in life's "little things" and appreciating others. One thing to note: This is a reissue of a CD that came out in 2005, so unless you want two copies of each song, no need to buy it again.

What's the story?

Preschoolers will gleefully dig into Courtney Campbell's MUSTARD PANCAKES, a compilation of songs from the TV show. Several of her quirky, whimsical songs involve animals as characters in a story (Jumpin' Jake's Song" and "Oogleberry Ink Dog"), while others celebrate the little joys in life, such as eating one's favorite food ("Chocolate Cake" and "Mustard Pancakes"), making music ("The Singing King" and "We Are All Together"), or playing in the rain ("Red Raincoat").

Is it any good?

Some of the musical tales on Mustard Pancakesare laugh-out-loud funny: "The Camel with a Runny Nose" tells of a camel who has a cold and innocently blows every other part of his body except his nose before he finally figures it out. A singer-songwriter with a gentle, loving demeanor and a rib-tickling sense of humor, Campbell has a remarkable talent for storytelling and delivers her country/folk-pop tunes in a strong, clear voice.
