Music with a meaning!
The wonderful and talented Amy Lee does an outstanding job in The Open Door. References to pain, fear, loneliness, and self acceptance are present. The lyrics are very dark and are not intended for young children. They would not understand the message anyway...that you are not alone. There are many metaphors. With deep, haunting, and emotional lyrics teens will enjoy and anyone can relate to.

Open Door?? or should you close it?
This is a good cd for adults, or those over 17.. The content deals with abusive relationships "Call me when your sober," and has an overall "bitter rejected woman" feel to it. However, Amy Lee tells listeners how much fun it would be to "loose control just once." The question is loose control over what? Apparently she, "thinks it'd be nice." I'm not sure if this is such a positive message to send to teens, since most of the time they don't know what control is in the first place. The song "Lithium" is about severe depression and addiction to drugs. Lee says she wants to "let it go," but I dont think this content is appropriate for children.

Amazing album! Definet listen for anyone interested
I love this album! I loved Fallen, Evanescence's first album, but The Open Door brings an element of hightened artisic expression, new influence and growth to the table. The music is dark, yes, but it provides a sense of comfort in that at the end of the songs and even the final song of the album, 'Good Enough', give the listener hope and tell them "you'll make it through this". Evanescence's music is beautiful, poetic, dark, inspiring and unique. A must listen.

Fine for teens
It's a mixed bag lyrically, ranging from independence to depression to contentment to anger. Amy Lee's brilliant voice and strong lyrics lift the album. "Good Enough" is the best track on this album. It is beautiful. The rest are alright.

First off, the songs are hauntingly beautiful
Yes they are. A great mix of classical, rock, soul, metal, and some other genres. The Open Door is a great album. The songs are depressing but beautiful. I also wish I could sing like Amy Lee... Well, let me get back to what I'm talking about, it's not something you should have your 11 year old listening to, but the words soothe any broken soul. Not that mine is broken, of course. I just love the poetic words and, well, basically everything else about it. Overall, I'm a very optimistic person who hasn't suffered through a painful break-up. Great music for most people. Not so great for others.
