Phantom Planet
What’s the Story?
Known for their famous tie-ins, Phantom Planet seems determined to put a new face forward with their self-titled CD. With the help of producer Dave Fridman, the band delivers grungy guitar-based energy with an intelligent kick.
Is It Any Good?
The music is interesting and loud, with nods to both the New York garage sound and second-wave ska. It's modern punk rock at its best; the imaginative arrangements, trashy power-pop sensibility, and excellent performances are what make this album shine.
The lyrics are oddly inconsequential. They're hard to hear, and don't seem to say much of anything anyway. Get this CD for the fun of hearing a young, exciting band attack their songs with passion and power.
