Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 17–18

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

A mixed bag, including sexist language as well as some very good, strong messages about friendship.
  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

Explicit references to certain body parts and activities ("suck c--k," for example).
  • Language:

Gleefully explicit, employing every four-letter word.
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

A few references to drinking and getting high. (Benjamin Franklin is portrayed as a pot-head in "The Governement Totally Sucks.")

What Parents Need to Know

About Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny

Parents need to know that this is a brilliantly executed parody that's also filled with four-letter words and sexual references. Though an edited version is available, it's pretty pointless -- a lot of the effect lies in Jack Black and Kyle Gass's gleeful lack of concern for appropriateness and convention. Parental mileage will vary, but those uncomfortable with language that pushes the envelope will want to avoid this one.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about Black's delight in using "f--k." Why is it so much fun to say words that people agree are inappropriate? What makes Tenacious D's songs funny? What bands and genres are they mocking/paying homage to?

How did the Movie get a 15+, but this got a 17+?

This basicly is the movie (but with less swearing). They're is non stop swearing and some sexual content. The edited version has no swearing and it is funny because of the lack of effort they put into it

    Wow...

I listened to this when I got it from my brother's MP3 player and loved it. I'm covering the whole CD on guitar, but the language blew my mind! There's not even a 30 second period where they don't curse on this CD.

    "Master Exploder", Literally

Everyone needs to know that this album is AMAZING, but also in some cases highly offensive. With references from cutting of a dragon;s "c--kles", to talking about gargling mayonaisse, and by the way, they don't mean mayonaisse. Didn't like the movie, but the music was awesome.
