Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack
What’s the Story?
Bristling with testosterone, this album paints pictures of macho endeavors, piratical and otherwise: acrobatic swordplay, hoisting of the mainsail, spying on sworn enemies, the breaching of locked doors with a well-placed kick. All of these scenes can be found in THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN film, and the soundtrack will no doubt please die-hard fans who've seen all the Pirates movies, probably more than once. Overall, the soundtrack is best when it flexes its muscles, preferably played at full volume.
Is It Any Good?
The music is the kind that rouses the blood, so it can be enjoyed on its own merits. Composer Klaus Badelt achieves this with heavy percussion and synthesizers, to create moods of urgency and power. But he can also draw on strings and woodwinds to lighten the mood or to suggest romance. If some tracks suggest a familiar signature, it's not surprising. Composer Klaus Badelt wrote or had a hand in soundtracks for other action films pitting the individual against the odds, including Gladiator and The Time Machine.
