Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that kids may know Milkshake from PBS Kids and Noggin TV shows. This is an energetic and enjoyable album that encourages kids to use their imagination and play sports. And, the CD's cheery tracks won't easily annoy adults -- even after multiple listens.
Families can talk about why playing is such an important part of growing up. What does role playing help teach kids? Why is it so much fun to pretend to be other people, like pirates or cowboys or singers in a band? And what do we learn by playing sports like baseball or bowling?

Some of the best music for kids is created by musicians who have recreated themselves and their careers. Singer Lisa Mathews and guitarist Mikel Gehl originally wrote songs for grown-ups with their band Love Riot, but switched gears after each of them had kids of their own. PLAY! is a spirited, sunny collection of tunes about having fun, being creative, and, of course, playing. The songs rock ever so gently, and the vocals are clear enough that young ears can decipher each word and sing along. No matter what their interest, preschoolers can find a song that fits their style of play, from tunes about baseball and bowling to parades and pirates. Also included on the album are three bonus tracks that were created for the Discovery Kids' series ToddWorld, a show that celebrates difference and diversity.
Milkshake fans may also want to check out music from Roger Day and Ralph's World.
