What Parents Need to Know

This review of Pop Go the Wiggles was written by Kathi Kamen Goldmark

Parents need to know that you probably already have most of these 36 songs on other kids' CDs, but Wiggles' fans will want this collection of classics done Wiggle-style anyway. Not only are these 36 songs -- mostly nursery rhymes -- very familiar, but "Pop Goes the Weasel" appears on the CD four different times, with four different musical arrangements.

More on Pop Go the Wiggles

What’s the Story?

With their signature sound and sense of goofball fun intact, the international kid-pop sensation, The Wiggles, are here to warm up an assortment of old chestnuts on POP GO THE WIGGLES. Preschoolers will enjoy the clearly audible lead vocals and humorous musical arrangements more than most parents, as everyone over 5 years old has heard all of these songs approximately four hundred million times -- and there's just so much anyone can do to freshen up material like "This Old Man" and "Hey Diddle Diddle," though the Wiggles give it their all.

Is It Any Good?

Alternating up-tempo and ballad-style deliveries, Sam, Murray, Jeff, and Anthony -- along with their expressive soprano pal Carolyn Ferrie -- provide slick production standards and tasteful arrangements on 36 very short versions of familiar kids' songs. In one move that may be brilliant, crazy, or lazy (depending on how much you like the song to begin with), "Pop Goes the Weasel" appears four times, with a different Wiggle singing lead on each version. Although this CD is a fine attempt at keeping some favorite kids' songs alive, there's very little that sounds original here -- Pop Goes the Wiggles is for very young kids only; parents are warned to bring their own iPods to the dance party.

Wiggles... hmmm. There is just something peculiar of about 40+ year old men singing songs to toddlers, running a kids show. Pedifile, much?
