Common Sense Note

Parents need to know that Disney Channel's That's So Raven star still keeps her lyrics full of positive issues (like self-esteem) and squeaky clean, even if she's growing up. Her music is growing up, too, in terms of quality, and older siblings might just be borrowing this CD from their younger brothers and sisters.

Families can talk about the recurring theme of self-confidence and being comfortable "in your skin" that Raven sings about. Do you think she is singing about personal experiences she has had in the music industry as someone who doesn't necessarily fit the "mold" or expected "image" of a star? Do you respect her more for having such great success despite this?

Common Sense Review

Reviewed By: Jessica Dawson

Disney darling Raven-Symone is growing up (she's all of 22), and her fourth self-titled album, RAVEN-SYMONE, proves she's becoming a force to be reckoned with. Its 13 tracks are upbeat, club bangers featuring hot producers like Sean Garrett (Fergie, Beyonce), The J.A.M. (Leona Lewis), and The Clutch (Timbaland).

This album will pleasantly surprise listeners. Raven-Symone has showcased some real vocal talent and versatility, great musical arrangements, and some girl uumph! She's Disney-bred, and the album is safe for all ears, but she's put a little more stank on it this time around. This album brought in some heavy-hitters to make the music more competitive throughout the entire industry, not just the tweeny-bopper Disney-viewing audience. The album is fun, feisty, and confident with club knocks to make you bop your head like "In Your Skin," "Green," "That Girl," and "Got It Girl." "In the Pictures" is more pop R&B with some acoustic guitar and "Hollywood Life" is a sweet, sad ballad. Raven tells it like it is, and we love her even more for it when she tells it like this.
