What’s the Story?

TV and boy-band veteran Jesse McCartney is a nice guy, the kind most parents would like to see dating their daughter. At least that's the image that he -- and his record label -- seem to be trying to project. And most of the songs on RIGHT WHERE YOU WANT ME are declarations of the kind of adoring, romantic love that fuels young teens' fantasies. A couple of the songs actually get pretty sexy, with playful (if non-explicit) innuendo; for example, "Turn off all the lights and lay back while I blow your mind" ("Blow Your Mind").

McCartney is a terrific singer, so it's no surprise that his follow-up to his debut album Beautiful Soul is just as successful an effort, if a teensy bit less safe. The most substantial song by far is "Invincible," a cautionary tale about the tragic end to a drunken ride down the highway. "Four or five drinks and you were on your way ... you took that turn doing 85 in a 35 ... doctors were trying to save you for three damn hours" are lyrics that might stimulate some family discussion about drinking and driving.
